Doris Cole

We were supposed to have a rummage sale today but we attended a celebration of the life of a dear sweet friend. Doris passed away earlier this week. Friday night we went to the visitation. I finally got to meet the family members I have heard so much about from Doris. And it was a time to visit with 'old friends' from our 'old church'. Saturday we had scheduled a rummage sale. But thought we needed to go to the funeral. I am so glad we did because it was sad but also a real celebration. Greg McCollam did a wonderful job. He is such a calming soul. He told us about the times he visited with Doris in the hospital and in Hospice. He told us that she was torn...torn between the ones she would leave behind that she loved here on earth and then so excited and looking forward to see the ones in heaven. There was not a dry eye in the church. A soloist was singing with the angels...His Eyes Are On The Sparrow..accapella with a rich touch of soul. There were AMENS all over the sanctuary. Greg gave the congregation a chance to tell stories about how Doris had touched our lives....she was afraid of dogs but when a beloved dog passed away she sent a sympathy card, she gave a stuffed lion to a child at the end of a rummage sale, her cleaning lady developed a strong relationship with her just from spending time talking and listening, a member of the pulpit committee said that she had given him her vote for the new pastor, Mark told a story about how Doris and Ernie had taken Cassie and Emmy under their wings and had taken them to different places in Cincinnati to eat and they relayed the history of the area, her grand daughter related stories from the family....

Even thought we were emotionally drained from the service, I left with a smile on my face for having had the privilege of knowing and loving this sweet, sweet spirit. I can only imagine the job she will have in Heaven but I know she will do it to the very best of her ability.
