We Did A Little Smth, Smth

Last Friday, Mark was driving down our street, and this little dog was running right in the middle like it had seen a ghost. He pulled the car over, opened the door, and called for the pup, and it jumped right in. He called me and asked me to meet him in the driveway. I thought something was wrong.  And the plot thickens.

When I saw this poor little scraggly thing...I just fell in love.  And some of you already know where this is going to end up.

I posted on our neighborhood site and waited for an answer. Our neighbor up the street said he thought it might be their neighbor's dog. Then I got a reply to my text, and this person said that it could be their dog named Lucy.

My first objective was to give her a bath. She didn't mind at all. I washed her with Dawn, just like they do for animals in an oil slick.

Now to get her warm.  I'll volunteer to hold her.  Tough job but someone has to do it.

She just cuddles and cuddles.  I've never had a lap dog.

Long story short Mark took her to the vet to see if she had been chipped.  Yes and her family was a few doors down.  And she weighs a whopping 7 pounds 1 ounce. Mark called and talked to the people and we ended up keeping her.  Her name with them was Lucy.  But if she is going to be in our Herdman pack she must have a Herdman name.  There is only one girl's name left...Alice.  She just doesn't look like an Alice to me.

After much discussion, she now has a new name...well a few.  Claudia Jean.  The yahoos call her Claudie.  But she is Claude to me.

That is such a sweet little face!

Monday morning Mark took her to Shampoochie for a spa morning.  She looked like a different dog.

She is so small we had to get her a small cat collar which she isn't sure about.  I'm glad it has a little bell because I where she is at all times.

A face only a mother could love!  I love that little face.  And that little wonky leg.

The dogs have already taught her to eat acorns.

Then she had an appointment at our vet.  She gained 3 ounces since coming to our house.  She fits right in.  It took only about an hour for her to learn how to go in and out of the doggie door.  She comes when you call her. She is a fast natural squirrel chaser. Gladys is very protective of her.  Ollie is beside himself about her.  He just doesn't know what to do with her.  Imogene just watches and makes sure everything is okay.  She has only had two accidents and sleeps quietly in the kennel beside the other dogs.  She loves to be loved.  The yahoos love her to the moon and back.

So we now have a pack of four.  I can't wait for the kids and grandkids to meet here.  They were all dead set against us having another dog.  But I know that she is going to melt their hearts when they meet her.
