Groundhog Day
The 'Gratsch' Claus came this morning bearing awesome snacks for our empty snack drawer. The boys helped fill the Snack Drawerabd then they weren't back through and touched every bag.
Bailey didn't give those snacks a second thought.
She had a muffin the size of her head and she was loving it.
Yep! Totally loving it.
We emptied our Good Things/Kindness Jar and read each note. They were so excited and they remembered some of the days.
This month we are working on a Kindness Bingo Game.
Our families have a little bit of homework to do this month. Each got to take a Kindness Heart home with one section already colored in red. During the month they will see how many sections they can have colored in by the end of the month.
We got a little jump on PS/PK today. We watched the groundhog unveiling in PA. They were so excited. Jase was the most excited because he predicted that the groundhog would see his shadow!
My little woodchucks!
Some interesting groundhog/woodchuck/hedgehog facts we learned.
Groundhogs are large rodents and are members of the squirrel family.
Their burrows can have up to five entrances and go as deep as five feet under the ground.
When digging their burrows they might move 700 pounds of dirt.
They can limbs trees when they want some delicious fruit.
They are excellent swimmers.
They are chunky and can weigh up to 15 pounds.
They usually come out of hibernation in March (So my question is why do we celebrate Groundhog Day at the beginning of Feb?)
Their lifespan is about 6 years.
Most of the time, the groundhog predicts a long winter. The groundhog isn't always right, though. The groundhog is only right about 35-40% of the time.
Our science activity today was to trace a shadow. It was a cold day and we realized that we should d it on a more sunny day and one that was a little warmer. We about froze to death. We talked about our long shadows.
