Thanksgiving Feast Preschool Style

Sometimes you have to join them to conquer them.  So that's just what I did.  We have at least 500 yahoos setting off their sirens all at once after breakfast.  There was no way that we were going to be able to go outside so we went to the basement.  I figured we hadn't had a tent for a while so we built a tent.  That turned into a yurt, and then a cave.  While they are in the cave I decided that if I couldn't control the loudness of the morning I would try to wear their little voices down.  I turned off all the lights except for one that was high on the pie safe and we pretended it was the moon.  They all the wolves howled until they couldn't how anymore.  That's when we got out the Leggos and the Duplos...of course building under the tent.  AND THE NOISE LEVEL WAS AMAZING!

Jase asked me to take a pic of the Building Buddies!

Once Pappy got back from the store Levi and I headed upstairs for AM Preschool.  The first activity after all the normal morning routine was working on opening the Dobbers by ourselves.  That's a tough one for little muscles.

He's getting the hang of it!

Everyone needed a hat with feathers.  This year was a first.  I found these 'hats' I think at JoAnn's a long time ago.  They loved painting them.

Then we read a Thanksgiving book before fixing our snacks.

Another fine motor activity...can't touch the food with your fingers unless it falls off the spoon and then it goes in your bag.

After lunch, the big boys were excited to get started.

Jase was the first man up.

They each needed to cut open one small bag of M&M's by cutting the package with scissors.

The table is decorated and the snacks are ready to go.  Now to wait for Adi and Ava to get off the bus.

Let the feast begin!

Each item they spooned into their snack bag had a meaning.

Blessing Mix
Bugles represent the cornucopia, a horn of plenty
.
Pretzels represent arms folded in thanks and prayer.

Candy corn reminds us that during the first winter, the pilgrims were allowed only a few kernels of corn per day because the food was so scarce.

Seeds (peanuts) are a promise of a future harvest if they are planted and well-tended.

Fruit (raisins) are a reminder of the harvest gifts from the land.

M&M's are for memories of those who came before us.

Hershey's kiss is a reminder of the love of family and friends that sweeten our lives.
