The Calm Before The Storm
March 31 I looked out the backdoor after getting the family room ready for the next few weeks and this is what I saw.
April Fool's Day and this is no joke. Mark had a total knee replacement at The Christ Hospital.
But before he could leave the hospital he had to master 'The Stairs To Home.' No problem there.
We had to remove the brown recliner because it was too low and really didn't have any arms to push from. Those good sturdy Amish chairs serve another purpose!
Thursday night was rougher than rough. I don't think either one of us got a wink of sleep. We were up and out of the bed a hundred times.
Waiting to take a walk around the first floor after exercises. PT was at 8:30 AM on Friday morning. That's right the morning right after the surgery. He was a rock star!
Switching things up with breakfast on the island today.
We have learned a few things. It is great to have a brother and sister-in-law that are nurses that you can call anything there is a little issue. Sometimes it is hard to make it across the room to the bathroom. So I came up with this fancy urinal. Works like a charm. And that ice and compression machine is the bomb!
Did you know the if you put a plastic bag on your foot before you put on those dang compression socks they slide on like a charm? Thanks to one of Mark's nurses for that little tidbit.
This is definitely not a good look for me. Look at the fat above the mask under my glasses. Gross!
We are now camping out in the family room while the dogs are kenneling in the schoolroom for now. Once Wammeyville reopens after Spring Break who knows where things will be. But that is another day... not going to worry about it today.
We are using one of Mark's belts as a safety strap and it doubles as a strap for PT.
And this evening we learned how challenging it is going to be to go to the bathroom and actually sit down and then get up again. The half-bath is so small and the toilet is so close to the ground so we are on the lookout for a potty chair. If anyone has one or knows someone that does please get in touch with one of us ASAP.
Thanks to everyone that has helped in the adventure. The goodie bags make us smile. The extra muscle has given my back a little bit of a break. The medical know-how is priceless. And the meals have every one been so good and very much appreciated.
Keep us in your prayers. Pray for a speedy and calm recovery. The Nurse Ratchet has come out a few times already. Not pretty
