Checking Out Acadia and Bar Habor

Sun is out and we ate a quick breakfast of donuts and bananas and headed to Echo Lake Bus Stop so we could tour the island.  The buses are free, paid for by Acadia National Park.  If you see something along the way and you want to gt off you can.

Can you almost hear the loons?

Had to check out the shore to see if we missed anything that might have washed up on the shore in the night.  And leave a carin or two.

Lobster or crab claw?

little bitty snail shell

Lat minute lay in the hammock before getting on with the day.

We just missed the bus so now there is about a 30 wait.  Not too happy about this.  Just thinking about the rest of the day.

Right off the bat, I spot a little library.  Nice and full but I'm thinking my little barn is awesome!

We are on the so-called Quietside of the island.  So why not have lunch at the Cafe.

Great weather for a picnic...and no bugs!

This girl loves a good burger.

Reuben for the Papster.

Popcorn shrimp for me.  Or was it chicken?

Ellis...what else but a Reuben.  He said it should be called a sauerkraut sandwich.

We decided after a 'discussion' that we should catch the bus back to Echo Lake and pick up the truck and drive ourselves.  That way if we want to jump out and run on the rocks we can and we don't have to wait for a bus or always be checking our watches.

So stop and look at the flowers.

We did make one stop with the bus and got to hang around on the rocks for a bit.

The bus ride back.

And off we go on the adventure for the day.  You never know where the road will lead.  And that is half the fun.

First, stop...we picked up our own guided tour along with a map.  The best thing we did.

We learned a little about carins and another way to make them.

Frenchman's Bay

Thunder Hole.  We found out that you have to get there two hours before high tide to hear the thunder.  It was raining and the wrong time of day but we did hear a gurgle.

Love these smooth rocks and so did they.

We looked in a huge tide pool for some treasures.

Alaire found the tiniest crab.

Ellis could do this all day long.

These barnacles were on everything.

Jordan Pond
I wanted so bad to get popovers and tea but there was a 45-minute wait.  Maybe next time.

From the top of Cadillac Mountain..mid day.

Ellis was in heaven.  He could jump on rocks until his legs hurt.

6:35PM

Everyone told us that we had to try a Lobster Roll.  So we found this cute little place on the side of the road.

Emmy says that we should have gone somewhere else but we didn't get her text until after the fact.

The famous Lobster Roll...not at all what I expected.  I'm from WV...it is supposed to be rolled in a roll like a pepperoni roll.

She switched it up to a grilled cheese.

Ellis got a grilled cheese with lobster.  "Wammy, I tried so hard to like it."

Best part of the night...ice cream.

Another find by Emmy.  Alaire gives it a two thumbs up.

That night we finished reading The Acorn People.
