Geez, how many times over the last two years have I heard my dad recite that date at his doctor's appointments? How many forms have needed that date? How many times have we answered that question for him?
To celebrate this day Mark and I went to Cracker Barrel (one of his favorite places) for breakfast. Mark had a Ray Meadows Special which means you order eggs, sausage, gravy and cut it all up and mix it together. Yuck!
I saw a video of a lady at CB giving a tutorial on how to win at the golf tee, triangle jump game. I watched it a few times and then Mark started and stopped the video for me. I finally got it! My dad had a way to win by using a baseball analogy. Never could do it his way. But today I am the master.
I have lots of favorite pictures with him but I think these two are my most recent favorites. Robin and I went fishing with him at Lake Forest one cloudy and chilly day. That man loved to fish! He didn't care what kind he was fishing for. I think Robin and I inherited the love for fishing from him and his dad' our Popaw. I crack up each time I see this pic. He is sitting in my 'spider chair' but he is actually sitting on the ground in it. He didn't care one bit.
And then there is this one. We were in for Mark's Dad's funeral. Seems like we are always making lemonade from lemons. He always loved being the center of attention! And loved being with family.
I know we will always have Peep stories to tell. And I will never get tired of telling them. I hope my kids will keep his memory alive after I am gone and then my grandkids. He was a character that is for sure. You just never knew what he was going to say or what he was going to do. He was strict with Robin and me but a real softy when it came to his grandkids and his great grandkids.
A side note about today...on this day in 1972... Mark and I went on a blind date. Do the math...46 years ago.
