Time Helping My Dad

It's been a long, emotional week.  We thought that my dad was going in for a tumor biopsy on his bladder.  Things took a different turn somewhere during the week and he ended up having a large tumor removed from his bladder that turned out to be cancerous.  We have done lots of talking, praying, some crying and have had some really hard discussions about what the future holds.

But there were some good, fun times.  I tried to capture this adventure.

We came home a day before his procedure so he could rest.

Home is a good place.

His cute Christmas tree.

As you can see his dishwasher doesn't wash dishes but is just more cabinet space.

As is the oven.

First things first...a good nap on the couch 'watching tv'.

Our home away from home for a few days.

Betsy is going to be so excited to see that I have been practicing my stitches for the grocery bag homeless sleeping maps.

Always has his hat with him.

I can sleep anywhere!  Just ask my dad and sister.

Our first stop after recovery was the Medical Intensive Care Unit.  Just happens that the BEST SISTER-IN-LAW runs the place.  Everyone took the best care of both of us.

Always a big kidder.

We traded places...he got my recliner for awhile and I got to relax in his bed.

The Break Out Party.  We only spent one night on Med/Surg/Urology Unit.  Great care there too.

He was so excited to be home!  Where' my dog?  Wyngate at Riversedge is the best place ever.  They genuinely care about my dad.  They tolerate his sense of humor and accept Stitch, his four-legged sidekick.

I grew up on the banks of the Ohio river on the weekends with my cousins.  I  loved watching the barges going up and down the river, especially at night when they would shine their bright spotlights on us.

He's back!!! My

Tonight was the first night that he ventured out for a meal with his peeps.

When he rode in they clapped and called out his name.  The rooster is back in the henhouse!

I think this might have to be my favorite picture of the day today.  The ladies are too sweet.  On Fridays, they all play cards and my dad is the dealer/cheater.  They all look forward to Friday.

There are funny, funny stories...

valet parking the car for four days
mashed potatoes for breakfast
the cafeteria being closed for one whole day
one of the nurses asking if I was his wife...really?
the hospital humor

We are in a holding pattern waiting to talk to the doctors.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's health issues. It is wonderful that he has so much good care and hands on support from both professionals and family. Please send my best wishes for a happy holiday and a return to complete health. Ray Meadows was and is one of the great ones, a super neighbor and an all around good guy!
