New Book Finds God in the Small Stuff

CINCINNATI, Ohio – (April 2013) Described as a book that reads like a Jerry Seinfeld version of "Chicken Soup for the Soul," the new book, Where’s God? Finding Him in the Small Stuff, observes real-life situations in a light-hearted way with a spiritual twist.

Written by Cincinnati, OH pastor, Greg McCollam, and published by WestBow Press (a division of Thomas Nelson, the world’s premier Christian publisher), Where’s God? is a collection of original stories which use familiar, day-to-day experiences as a doorway to unexpected encounters with God.

Chapter headings include "Finding Him at Home," with a story that describes a cup of coffee as an example of the uncertainties people face each day; "Finding Him on the Road," which includes a story about how crossing bridges in a car is like crossing from "this life" to the "next life;" and "Finding Him in Pets and Other Animals," highlighted by a description of the family dog’s inner struggle with good vs. evil.
Author Greg McCollam is an ordained American Baptist minister who is currently pastor of Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Cincinnati. He formerly worked in the promotions and marketing departments of the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Pacers. He graduated from the University of Charleston (WV) and South Charleston High School, where he played for the state champion runner-up football team in 1975.

Stories with a Cincinnati flavor include a visit to Old Coney Amusement Park as a child with his grandparents, who tricked him into riding The Racer roller coaster. Another story features his "Road Warrior Observations" made during business trips from Cincinnati to Texas and back.

Stories with West Virginia interest include a description of the drive time from Dunbar to Charleston and how it relates to the "bigness" of God. Another story features his recollections of spending summers at the family’s cabin on Coal River, where Ivory Soap played a key role in keeping clean.
Below is a description of Where’s God? Finding Him in the Small Stuff from the book’s dust jacket:

When Jesus taught, He used parables. A parable is a story that uses something familiar to illustrate something that is unfamiliar. So, when Jesus taught, He talked about things like farmers and seeds; light and darkness; and a prodigal son and a good Samaritan in order to paint a picture of what God is like and of what we should be like as God’s children. This book will try to do what Jesus did: tell you stories, modern day parables that use the familiar to help you find God. As you read it, God will become more real to you than He has ever been before. By the time you finish it, you will be ready to go out and live every day as though your life is the only "parable of Jesus" some people will ever see.

Where’s God? Finding Him in the Small Stuff is now available in either hard back, or paperback, and will soon be available for e-readers through Amazon, or the Barnes and Noble website. A portion of proceeds from sales of the book benefit the ministry outreach of Walnut Hills Baptist Church.
