Peterloon 2012
We, Michael and I, have just completed our first campout with boy scouts. He will be crossing over into Boy Scouts in February and we are looking for a Troop to join. I was just a smidge nervous about it all and how Michael would react to things and how they would react to Michael.
Check out the Peterloon Website here
One of the rules is that the scouts could not bring a chair. So being the good campfire girl and cub scout mother that I am...I made Michael a sit-upon. Which came in very handy. He now can use it on other campouts. And with each one, he can write the name on date on the sit-upon .
Thursday night set up. Our troops were allowed to come a night earlier to set up, which was very nice. Putting up the dining flies.
Wyatt's tent, Luke's tent and our tent
I can tell you that if you ever need someone to go camping with, Mr John would be your guy...he has everything! Here he is setting up our porch for coffee drinking.
Wyatt ready to go.
The Amicon boys.
One happy camper!
Logan ready for a great weekend.
We are packed and the van is jammed...headed for Peterloon!
After a few hours of the gates being open...rows of tents are beginning to form.
Loving his tent.
Our walk to the potties wasn't very long. And the greatest part of my weekend...two end potties marked with Adult Women. It was great...clean, lots of toilet paper, a mirror, and some of the best hand sanitizer ever....and never a line! Ahhh, it's just the small things that make a big difference.
You can't tell that it was a rough first night but it was! SOOOOOOOO cold.
Hot eggs and bacon just hit the spot.
In heaven with his breakfast burrito
Logan forgot his jacket in the car. So his Dad being the good Eagle Scout that he is, shared his sweatshirt.
First morning headed for all the activities.
filling up
Headed in!
RRT, Roads, Rivers and Trails is our favorite place to buy outdoorsy kinds of things. They were having a contest to guess the weight of the backpack. If you guess correctly, you can choose between taking the backpack or $150 gift certificate.
Loved this...the dogs were amazing!
The pic isn't too great but the story is! Our team of elementary 'newbies' went up against a group of late teens. The last question the boys bet the farm. With the help from an older scout they answered correctly and won. Fast forward to the evening extravaganza and we found out that they came in first in the entire game. They actually won and they were awarded a plaque. Oh my word!!!
osage orange or hedge apples
Nothing better on a hot day than an ice cream with your scout buddies!
This was the go to place if you should get separated from the rest of the group.
You just never know what you might see. These gentlemen were from Beaver Creek, OH.
See I told you!
Shooting the BB gun
Checking the scorecard...two out of 5 not bad for the kid that can't see out of one eye (20/200, so we are going to the eye doctor soon.)
Comparing skills
These two guys are a scream! We had a great weekend!
It is probably a good thing that we had to do a lot of walking all weekend long. We were fed so well!
Mr Arnett...always keeping us informed about the weather.
This is one happy camper. I was amazed at how well he did all weekend.
Last breakfast.
Church was held in the BB gun range and was given by an Eagle Scout.
We had a blast and are ready to go again. Retired my blowup mattress and now looking for a good camping map. I even saw Mark looking at a new tent online.
I was impressed with the Boy Scout Troop that sponsored us this weekend. The boys were kind to our guys and very hospitable. The food was beyond good. I even got some tips on cooking in my dutch oven.
