Fossil Hunting And Panning For Gold

Today our scout den attacked the banks of a creek in Batavia hoping to find our fortunes.

The Three Musketeers minus a Musketeer....Wyatt where are you?

Sporting their new boots!  Love them!

Michael is so excited about going...not really.  I can't understand it...he loves to be in a creek.  Not enough computer time this weekend I guess.

Our destination...love the old barns.

Almost our whole Den.

Mr Williams (in the cool sunglasses) once when he was younger found a trilobite that is on display in The Smithsonian's Natural History Museum in Washington, DC.  Impressive!  The man in the orange hat is Mr. Ken Kruthaup.  He is the expert on fossils and panning for gold.  They are helping the boys earn their Geologist Activity badge and Geology belt loop.

And the work begins.

Mr. Kruthaup pointing out the good places to begin our search.

Ms Renee's fossil looks like a dog and how fitting because she has a house full of grand dogs!

Luke hoping for just a speck of gold.  Did he find any?

Why yes he did!

What boy doesn't like a creek?

I text Mark during our day to let him know that Michael had found some gold...he asked if it was enough that he could retire.  Told him he had better not sign those papers just yet.  It might take a few hundred more trips to the creek for that!

Loved your blog post - neat family you have. We are in the Cincy area too and looking for a place for our Bear Cub scouts to do some activities.

Thanks for the info!
