The Horses of Cedarmore Farm

Over the next few weeks Andy is going to explain why all the animals on Cedarmore Farm are important.  Today we get to meet the horses.  Know what CSA stands for?  Ever consider joining one?

Through God's wisdom he has created a bond between a young Amish family that farms organically and a very interested old want-to-be, trying-hard-to-be a green backyard gardener.

I have been researching the Swartzentruber Amish...a deeply private and insular  Order of the Amish.  I have learned so much from Plain Secrets An Outsider among the Amish written by Joe Mackall.  The Swartzentruber are considered to be the most conservative of the world's Amish.  6% of the world's Swartzentruber Amish live in Ohio. There are several Orders of Amish...Beachy Amish, Swiss Amish, Nebraska Amish, New Order, Old Order and Swartzentruber.  The Swartzentruber Amish are the most distinguishable to me.  The men wear a 'Dutch Boy' style hair cut.  Their buggies have no windsheilds or and no bright orange slow moving vehicle triangle on the back.  Their buggies a plain and black.  And the driver sits on the right side of the buggy.

We are looking forward to all the vegetables that are coming in our CSA and the recipes and baked goods that Lizzie is willing to share.  If you live in the Cincinnati area please consider joining Cedarmore Farm CSA.  If you live outside the area, I encourage you to look into the CSA's in you area.
