Hummingbird Facts

Michael and I went to the library in search of research...that's what he calls it. (I know, the pic is backlit and everything else. I guess I need to move a feeder out into the sun...that is a job for the girls and I tomorrow).
  • "hummers" are the smallest birds in the worldthe have the biggest appetites
  • they eat insects for protein
  • some nests are the size of a walnut shell
  • females lay two pea size eggs
  • the eggs hatch in two weeks
  • when babies are around 4 weeks they fly away
  • some have long thin straight beaks
  • some have long curved beaks
  • the males sing for their mates
  • they lives 10 years
  • they are hard to photograph
