Hummingbird Facts
Michael and I went to the library in search of research...that's what he calls it. (I know, the pic is backlit and everything else. I guess I need to move a feeder out into the sun...that is a job for the girls and I tomorrow).
- "hummers" are the smallest birds in the worldthe have the biggest appetites
- they eat insects for protein
- some nests are the size of a walnut shell
- females lay two pea size eggs
- the eggs hatch in two weeks
- when babies are around 4 weeks they fly away
- some have long thin straight beaks
- some have long curved beaks
- the males sing for their mates
- they lives 10 years
- they are hard to photograph
