Walton-Verona Auction

Another Saturday...another auction...I'm seeing a pattern here, as Michael would say. We got up early this morning, packed a cooler, dropped Sarah off at job #1, and headed to Kentucky. About 20 minutes into the adventure, Mark asked me for the directions...what directions, I thought you had them...so we followed Mark's nose. Seems he can smell them out. About 10 minutes later we turned off on the gravel road leading to a long, long line of parked cars and hundreds of people. We found it! Walking up the road we could hear the auctioneers. Michael was not impressed at all. Oh, but we brought a bag of goodies for just that reason....books, markers, paper, snacks...We tried to explain what was going on to Michael (he was not impressed with any part of the auction)...but off we went to check out all the stuff and Mark headed for the registration table to get our number. We found a sundial that was really cool. I left Michael to stand by it to find Mark to let him know about it. When we came back Micahel was talking to some man about it (which is very unusual...Michael talking to any one much less a complete stranger). Sure would have been a great addition to the garden. But as luck would have it, the man who won the bid, had on a Marshall shirt. Mark starts to talk to him (go figure) and found out he was from Huntington and he lives on S. Queens Court...a few streets over from where we lived years ago. Small world. On to the next item up for bid...a huge globe. Michael was so pumped. Then Michael was so let down...didn't get it either. Bummer! Can you find Mark in this picture? This is what he did all day...watched everything like a hawk. He would move from tent to tent...from wagon to wagon, from field to field.
We didn't need a clock or a sundial to tell us what time it was. Michael has a sixth sense about those things...hot dogs, chips and the forbidden Coke for lunch, on the wagon...what could be better?
Well, I'll just tell you...a good Magic Tree House Research Guide about Sabertooth Tigers and The Ice Age by Mary Pope Osborne. Crack me up!
This auction had it all...dinner bells, tables, chairs, horses, spindles, dishes, lamps, Civil War stuff...I could go on for hours. Here is a picture of just one side of the field where all the heavy farm equipment was. Look at all the people.
There were some great wooden bowls, cabinets, white beat up posts, ice cream churns, old brass kerosene lamps,...things I dream of....but I think we came out really well. These stones are about 18 inches wide and if you check on the Internet, you'll see we got a bargain ! A BIG BARGAIN!

The crocks are smaller than any of the ones we have...most of which have been given to us. The ice tea pitcher, big...bigger than the one that Mark's Mom makes iced tea for Mark in. I love it all!
