Slug Repelant

How do you keep slugs from eating your vegetables...You grab a small plastic container, bury it even with the soil and then borrow a beer from our neighbor and fill the container full. The slugs smell the yeast and think they are in hog heaven and drink themselves to death. I checked this morning...the slugs in OH must be a lot smarter that the slugs in WI...not a slug to be found. Hmmmm, makes you think that just maybe it is someting else dining on the leaves.
