Giving Something Back

I've spent a lot of time at various Children's Hospitals in my days as a Mom To Many and I have always wanted to be able to do something for other children and parents that I would see during my visits. Never really knew what that would be until Emmy told me about a program at Children's. This isn't exactly the program that she told me about but this one is one that I feel that I can do now that I am staying at home with Allyson. I always wanted to be one of those rocking grandma's in the nursery. Someday...I am sure they won't run out of rocking chairs or babies for that matter.
Tonight I started my latest project. This will be on going for years I hope. Project Linus basically , to my understanding, is a volunteer project. There are fabric/pattern cutters and then sewers and quilters. Blankets are made that are placed on the beds pf children in the hospital. When they get to go home from the hospital, they take the blankets home with them.

Emmy's roommate, Casie, works at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on the peds oncology floor as a social worker . Casi is the person in the know about quilts/blankets at the hospital. So this is the first kit I started on tonight. I have the center pieces and three of the outer boarders on and then my last needle broke. It was too late to go to the fabric store so I guess tomorrow Allyson and I will make a road trip to the fabric store. Our first real road trip...how fun.

This is my second packet...a flannel kit. I love flannel blankets/quilts. They are so soft and so warm. I just wonder how much I will get done on them tomorrow. I see a late night...that's okay...it is going to feel good to get back to the sewing machine. Kinda like practice before I begin all the project that are lined up in the basement. It has been awhile. I am excited about making the quilts for the children a the hospital. Anything I can do to make a child smile.

So where do you get your kits from? How big do the blankets/quilts end up? Have fun on your adventure with Alison.
