'Sweet Chef'

Michael has now decided that he wants to be a sweet chef. You know, the ones that make all the cakes. We tried to explain that he would be called a pastry chef. He knew that...it's just that everything is sweet and he likes that.
Michael could not wait until after dinner to start the apples. He and Emmy were hogging the stove while I am trying to make dinner. You see, Emmy has had a sweet tooth for some caramel apples like she used to make with Memaw...my Mom. So tonight was the night that Michael got his first lesson from Chef Emmy. First you have to find all the ingredients at the grocery store...which is not a small task. After three customer helpers...the sticks were found. Back to cookingStirring is a very important part. You can't let it stick...stir constantly. It took all three of us to open caramels, stir caramels and keep stirring caramels. Emmy read the directions and they said to add 2 TBS of water. My Mom never used water. She always used milk. Emmy couldn't remember that part. So milk it was. Emmy poured and Michael measured.Forking seems to be an extra step in the new and improved directions for making caramel apples. Michael wanted to make sure that the Michael Mouse sprinkles (or jimmies as they are called in OH) stayed on. You can't mess with his sprinkles. Waiting is one of the hardest parts. The directions clearly state that the apples must remain in the fridge for one hour, 60 minutes...a life time when you are 6 years old. The waiting was a little shorted than 60 minutes. It really doesn't matter when you can't leave the fridge door closed for more that 30 seconds at a time. We ate the apples a little warm and still sticky. I am just sure that enjoying was the best part. We still have a bag of honey crisps apples (we had gala tonight). So if you are wanting an 'almost healthy' snack...Michael would be glad to come over and show you how it is done.

They were almost as good as I remembered!!! I think that we will probably have to make them again VERY soon!!!!
