He Was Doing So Great...

Six green tickets in a row! Yippee! Then today a red ticket...bummer. I knew before I went to bed last night that today as going to be a little more challenging for Michael. You see, we had to get up with the chickens to take Sarah to school because Mark had to be at work literally before the sun came up. If you mess with his routine, (Mr. OCD) it just throws him for a loop. Breakfast went well, getting ready for school even better, a good walk to the bus stop...then it hit. Michael wanted to tell Skyler something which Skyler didn't want to hear. We have been working on this little social skills seems like forever. When someone ignores you or does something on purpose to upset you, just walk away and do something else. He did really well, though he did walk off with his arms locked across his chest with a huff. Once he calmed himself down, he began talking with some other kids at the bus stop. When he got on the bus and got in his seat...the tears began. What's a Mom to do. God and I talked all the way back home. I guess I didn't explain myself very well or just maybe God is using this as a 'teachable moment' for all of us. Usually the first thing off the bus, Michael tells me what color ticket he got for the day. Tonight he stated that it was green ticket. I'm thinking great. Then the next thing out of his mouth is 'Mom, don't look in the little pockets on my book bag.' Ding, ding, ding...looking, looking. Oh, I find a red ticket. I zipper the bag back up and laid it on the kitchen table. I got his snack ready and put it out on the table right beside his book bag. He gets the green marker to color in today's square green. I look at him as ask him if he is sure he got the right color. He looks me straight in the eyes and says yes. Wrong answer. Then I ask he how come there is a red ticket in his bag? 'I forget' is his answer. Teachable moment #2...lying is never a good choice. I make him go get a red marker and color in his calendar square. Not too fun. Then I ask again why the red ticket. Finally I get an answer. (you can read the teacher remarks by double clicking on the picture)
