First Full Week of School
To say the least the first week of school has been very interesting. You would think that the high schooler would be the one with all the drama...well, of course there is some drama there. But with Michael...you never know what you are going to get.
For instance......
He has been so excited for first grade...'you get two recesses and a snack. And there is Art class.' That was all well and good until he figured out that the second recess is actually when they have snack and there is no outdoor play, that I know of.
Our teacher has a check yourself behavior system. Everyone has a pocket with three cards...green, yellow and red. Greens are great. They mean that you are having a great day! Yellow cards are used for a warming that you better straighten up. And well, red cards are bad news. The first yellow ticket was because Michael couldn't keep his shoes on (he has really hot feet). The next yellow ticket was for wiggling in line and I am sure that there was some playing with you friend in there too. Yellow ticket number three...after the children finish their work they are allowed to turn it over and draw while the rest of the class is finishing up. Michael had in his mind that he needed a flotilla of 5 pirate ships. He only had time to finish three. That pushed him over the edge. He ended up in tears and missed some playground time with his friends because he chose to sit by the door and cry the entire recess time. And finally his last ticket...talking and disrupting his friend while they were supposed to be working.
His teacher and I communicate via email almost everyday. He is working purposefully on that green and yellow pattern. He likes it. She said that she had also noticed that.
This paper came as a shock to all of us...PE his favorite! Never would have thought that in a million years...art maybe, definitely not PE. Bryce, I know about now you are cracking up.
In talking with him about his day, as we do every day while we are walking home from the bus stop, he informed me that he made a new friend. I was excited about that.
Eating in the cafeteria is great but I was informed that I need to send in more money because the lunch lady always tells him that he doesn't have enough money for chips. I can just imagine his tray if he had unlimited funds!
Our motto...green is good!
