A Day At The Farm
What a fun day! I am still grinning from ear to ear. I was right in my element today. My new gardening buddy, Betsy, invited me to go down to her Dad's farm today to gather some bamboo so we could transform her backyard. Little did her Dad know, but she had her eye on the cast iron tub that she used to take baths in s a kid, that was sitting out in the yard. We are going to make it into a water feature for her yard. Oh, we have big plans. That bamboo was amazing. Some of it was over 30 feet tall. I think they should call the Zoo and tell them they have free food for some of the animals...come and get all you want. It is amazing stuff. We are going to make lattice, water features, wind chimes...who knows what else.We even got to go to the hen house, chicken coop or whatever they call it, and gather eggs. Actually Betsy's spotted the egg while I was ogling over the chickens. There was one rooster and two hens. Bill or William, whichever you want to call him, just remember to call him for supper, asked us if we had seen the chickens on up the hill. We missed them so back up the hill we went. I don't know how we missed them...they were right beside the pigs. Once we made it up the hill I was in heaven. The hen house/coop was just like the ones that you think they are going to look like...chicken wire, a little ladder leading up to a box where the rest...straw, chicken feeders and cute little watering bottlie things... Those poor little pigs. William/Bill says that they might not be there the next time we come. I really didn't want to hear that. I didn't get any pictures of the house...it is over 100 years old and full of stories and lots of character. Fred, Betsy's Dad, took us all around and kept asking me if I knew what some of the things were. I was proud of myself...I actually knew what most of the things were. Betsy showed me the room that she and her sister shared while they were growing up. She told me about the hole that they started to dig to go into the basement. Stories about all her brothers and sisters...6 of them I think. Then we had some of the best tea I have ever had. And yes, they got the bath tub up in the truck. I can hardly wait to see how it is going to look. I also got tons of treasures for the yard, some popcorn, a tomato from Dewey's garden but don't tell him and I got to have some of Dewey's chili for lunch. It was a great day! Can't wait to go back.
