Last Tree Down

I think we may have finally..YEA...taken down our last tree on this property...unless God chooses to blow one down for us. I can think of at least two more bushes that need to come out but that is for another day.

Yesterday Mark and I worked on cleaning up the compost bin so when they come to take care of the trees that fell in the storm...there will be lots of room for them to work. Not only that, but it was looking pretty rough back in that corner of the yard. We finally have actually made some pretty decent compost. We tidied it up a little and moved some things around. We ended up taking about about 5 bushes complete with stumps, miles and miles of stickers, oodles of poison ivy, several old bricks, and two metal fence posts thingies. In other words that was the dumping ground for all things that we had no idea what to do with. This is what the pickup looked like last night around dinner time. Still tons of room for who knows what! Ms Yvonne, this one is for you. Where were you when we needed you? Aren't you glad when you come next month that all of this will be finished and we can just sit out on the patio or the porch and sip sweet tea? You would have been so very proud!
We even got Sarah and Michael in on the fun. Michael and Skyler helped move sticks while Sarah was the chief stomper. We crammed three truck loads into one. We finally got the chain saw working with some help from Mr. John. Mark started tackling the trees in the shade while he could. Looks like a deep dark forest.
He had to be really careful which way the trees would fall. The neighbors yard has trees every which way. A real tangled mess.
By the time we got to this tree the sun was creeping up on us. It is so hot back in that corner of the yard. You can really see the wind damage in these pictures. When you are tying to do things like this that you really only know the basics for, you come to appreciate the people who do this for a living. We are thankful that we found Jim. He is the best tree guy around. But I think he would have gotten a good laugh at us trying to pretend that we know what we are doing. He's Mark AKA Paul Bunyan cutting down the last tree. I thought for sure it was going to end up in the compost pile. Missed it by inches...and that counts as a winner in my book.

So, here is the almost finished project. The chain saw chain came off yet again and I don't have the patience right now to fix it. So that will be a job for another day.
