Race For The Cure

Friday after loading the van, we set of for an adventurous weekend. It was packed from the minute our feet hit Lower Terrace until the minute we pulled into our driveway at home. May second is Mark's Dad's birthday. He is a World War II vet and a nut! Mark's parents had no idea we were coming...we like to surprise them like that sometimes. I think Katherine must have known we were coming because the cake she had on the dining room table would feed an army of hungry men. But more about that in a later blog.

As many of you know, Sarah Beth has been battling cancer for three years. And that is slowly taking over her body. But definitely not her spirit. This is the second year I have walked in the Race For The Cure. The last time...oh heavens, the last time...we traveled to DC and I walked an actual marathon...26.2 miles...in one day! Some in our group actully walked over 39 miles in two days. This year it was only a 5K. Thank heavens again and again.

Saturday morning in Huntington it was raining. I thought oh, yuck! So (at 7AM) we packed all the kids... Emmy, Sarah Ann, Sarah Elizabeth and Michael...in the family-truckster and headed for the state capital in Charleston...an hour away. The weather was nice when we got there and I was ever so thankful. Our team consisted of 38 friends and family......two legged and four legged. Aunt Leigh Ann made sure that we all had matching t-shirts that would stand out in a crowd. I wish I could tell you the total amount of people that were there and I wish I could tell you how much money our team raise for research or how much was raised for The LOVEYOURGUTS Foundation. All I know for sure was that we made the effort to walk in honor of Sarah Beth. Any one of use would gladly take on her burden...we know we can't make it go away. All that we know for sure is that we are doing everything humanly possible to help Sarah Beth and her family make it through this valley. We pray constantly. We ask perfect strangers to pray. We raise money. We send cards. We send food. We make phone calls. We are not giving up. We are staying strong for her and for each other. And we know that God is in control even if it doesn't seem like it most of the time.
This is one of my favorite pictures from the day...no words needed here I think.
Instead of the Three Stoogies...we have the three Sarah's...Sarah Ann, Sarah Elizabeth and Sarah Beth. And they all finished the walk with the same smile on their faces.

I saved you from having to view tons of pictures in a slide show...but if you would like to see more smiling faces you can go to Aunt Leigh Ann's blog or even Kathy's blog. I am sure they won't mind.

After the Walk we raced to the Kroger to buy buns for a big birthday picnic at the Napier's. Sarah Beth promised Michael a Dance Off....boy did we have a dance off! Sarah Beth made me promise that I wouldn't put her on the blog. But I never promised Michael. Enjoy!
