Leaders of Distinction...Day Three

We were able to sleep in and had breakfast at 9AM...another big buffet! The men had some work to do so they let the wives have some free time. Since I was on my own, I headed for Starbucks for some free WiFi. I don't remember if I mentioned this or not but it would have been an extra $14 as day for Internet service in the room. So I got to read Cassie's blog, catch up with the Pioneer Woman and Chickens in the Road. I forgot to bring the camera with me to Starbucks to download the pictures I had taken. oh, well..

Mark found me at Starbucks...how did he know? And we decided that if he was going to be comfortable at the Hoover Dam, he would need some shorts and tennis shoes. So back to the mall we trudged. We got back in time to take another little nap...I kinda like this napping thing...then off the to bus for the trip to the Hoover Dam. (I wanted to go to Lake Meade for some kayaking, but gave in to the 'Leader'. Circuit City had arrange for us to take the tour down deep inside the dam wall. I must say that was just a little unnerving to me. I felt like I was in the Bat Cave at Carter Caves in KY...just no bats just sidewalks and generators....big ones. I think Mark read every thing that was in print. He loves stuff like this. I was checking out all the angles and details in the buildings along with all the flowers growing on the side of the hill. I won't be sharing those pictures...only the important history type pictures on this blog...maybe another one at a later date. This is one of two memorials that were built in honor of the men that died while working on the dam. I am almost certain that Mark could tell you the exact number and maybe even the state they were from. I thought the colors and angles were awesome.
Her she is in all her glory...The Hoover Dam. It was a fun day and I actually did learn some facts that I will certainly share with my children. It is amazing! And it is a LOOOOOONG way down to the Colorado River. On the way to the Hoover Dam our bus tour guide, JP, told us that there has been a drought for 9 years. As a result of that the water level in the lake is down 125 feet. You can actually see where the level was 9 years ago...it is all that white rock looking stuff. They don't think the lake will ever recover. The government gives homeowners a $ break if the take up all the sod in there yards and replace it with lava rock or something like that. If you are caught watering your yard you are subject to a big fine. (Don't tell anyone, but I saw a man watering his lawn) It is probably a good thing that we didn't go on the lake because just walking to the middle of the bridge and standing with one foot in Arizona and the other in Nevada, my shoulders got a little sunburned. On the way back to Nevada side of the bridge I looked down into the crystal clear water and saw about 8 huge fish just sunning themselves by the rock wall. I called my Dad to see if he could tell me what kind of fish they were...walleye, small mouth bass...I would love to know. Maybe one day I will email and ask someone that I think should know the answer. Last but not least here is the official photo of our group visiting the Hoover Dam.Along with our photo, Mark came home with an actual piece of copper tubing from the Dam. (thanks Maggie) And Terry, be assured that we have enough literature to keep you busy for a couple of hours.

We still aren't finished with our day. All the attendees had a nice dinner before loading into the buses for our night at the MGM Grand to see the performance of Cirque du Soleil's KA. The last time Mark earned at trip to the workshop we were able to see O presented by Cirque du Soleil. I remember it being the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I was pumped for this show! The scenery was unbelievable! I added a link and you can watch the little clip to get a feel for what we saw. Really amazing!

It our day wasn't full enough...there was a midnight chocolate dessert buffet waiting for us back at the hotel...complete with champagne, a chocolate fountain, fresh strawberries, pineapple chunks, pretzels...shot glass desserts...and my favorite...little rice krispie squares for chocolate dunking! I took a bowl of fruit back to the room with me for an after midnight snack. What a day it was. Aren't you pooped?

just reminding you that you may want to make note of how well cared for your children were while you were away.
