Evening Walk
Our yard is slowly but surely waking up. You can see, feel it, and smell it. Today was warm and beautiful so you know that means we were in the yard digging in the dirt. I walked slowly and deliberately around the yard with my camera...looking at the plants in a different way. These are some of the things I saw...
This is our one and only tulip. It stands about 14 inches tall...never seen one that tall. The deer didn't find this one. And the boys didn't destroy it either.
I love how ferns come in such tight little packages. They are about my third favorite plant. Betsy gave me this one last fall. I think it is going to be beautiful.
Another treasure from Betsy...
Solomon's Seal. I love these also. We had a bumper crop of them in our shade garden in WI...Yvonne, remember digging them up on the side of the road? Maybe someday they will be as full and luscious.
Papaw found this beauty in Joe's backyard. We haven't had much luck with Azaleas but this one was beautiful last year. Seems it is late blooming. The color is so vivid and stunning.
See, I told you I liked ferns. This was one that just popped up out of nowhere. I love it when that happens.
I liked this picture because it shows winter and spring...the dry, dead, brown leaves and a contrast to the green lush spring ivy.
Peonies...or piss ant flowers as my great grand mother called them, are one of four that I am shocked are still living. They were just wee little twigs from WI and WV. I can't even remember what color they are.
This lilac will probably be in full bloom by the weekend. They have such a sweet delicate small. They remind me of my Nanny and Mark's Mamaw.
This little columbine is my volunteer plant. It is volunteering to come up where ever it wants to in the yard...front yard or back yard. I think this one might have a white bloom.
We don't have any idea what the flower is or even where it came from. It just popped up just today. Anybody have any idea what it is?
What about the color of these coral bells? I can't wait until the little pink flowers show up. There is such a contrast between the maroon and light pink. They are one of Mark's favorites.
I know for a fact that no one planted these. The clay pot has been empty for almost a year. I am hoping that I can keep it growing long enough to be able to see what it is. Did I ever say that I love this?
And last but not least...pink phlox. I have always loved these little flowers. My Mom and Dad have some on the wall in the lower driveway that I have tried to duplicate everywhere we have lived...with no luck. So I am thrilled that they are coming up in the lamp post bed. They must be tough little boogers because the dog has massacred that bed.
So there you have it, a walk around the yard with us. Be sure to send the .25 for the garden tour...or Yvonne, has the price gone up?
