Todays Doctor's Visit

I wish I had had my camera today because you not have believed it. Michael was such a trooper. We made the appointment with the allergy/asthma specialists...oh my. We were in his office for about 2 hours. Michael was poked and prodded and pricked in the back. We now know for sure that he has allergies...several...let me list them for you...
feathers(chicken, duck and goose)
dust mites (oh great)
6 different molds
birch trees
American beech trees
Box elder trees
Red and hard maple trees
Cedar mountain trees
Cottonwood trees
Pecan trees
Sycamore trees
dock/sorrel weeds
kochia weeds

So now Michael's meds include:
Pulmicort ( twice a day)
Albuterol (twice a day)
Singular (daily)
Clariton (daily)
Flonase (daily)

And don't forget what we now have to do in his room and in the house like...
...there should be no stuffed chairs, rugs, carpet or drapes in his room
...no blankets, woolen goods, or any other dust catchers in the closet.
...The doors should be kept closed
...furnace vent should be covered
...every week his room needs to be wiped down with a damp cloth
...pillows should be foam or dacron and washed monthly
...mattresses and springs must be vacuumed and completely encased in plastic with a zipper
...blankets should be double washed, fuzz-free cotton or dacron
...not being around smoke
...must not sit on rugs or overstuffed furniture
...limited house plants
...should not be in the house when it is cleaned
...maintain 35% humidity in the house
...avoid damp, dusty places
...keep windows closed and locked
...keep door to bedroom shut

We have another appointment in 2 weeks to see if any of this has worked. If there is no improvement we will have take allergy shots once a week for about two years.
Is you head spinning yet? Oh wait...we aren't finished yet. After all that time in the doctor's office we had to go to Children's Hospital Medical Center to have some blood drawn to check his immune system. I haven't really been able to wrap my head around that one yet. We will have those results in about five days. He is TROOPER!

PS...I forgot to tell you that I called in the reinforcements...Emmy joined us for the blood draw. A distraction to what was going to happen I guess...and moral support for both of us. After it was all said and done we went to Graeter's for a chip-a-wheelie. That seemed to make the hurt go away faster. He is still sporting the band-aid on his arm. I think he is afraid to take it off..."there might be a hole there".

we did all that with luke when he was in kindergarten and his list of meds was even longer i think. he's now 13 and only on 2 meds with an inhaler if he has a flare-up, which is rare. (so don't lose hope!)

MMMMMMMMMm....... no animal allergies?? When Lindsey went through all that (and me too!) she was allergic to horses and cats. I told Mike we whould have never let her keep the horse in her room. I take more meds than Michael on a daily basis now and I went through 5 years of allergy shots. Anyway, I'm sure it will all help and soon, it will all just be part of a daily routine!
I do hope he feels better soon.
Enjoyed our short visit!

please you left out the best part! When we went to get the blood drawn. Dumb nurse never tell a kid so this might hurt. Are you kidding me he was so ready till you said that!

The list of meds don't bother me much but I ama little nervous about the blood stuff.

We were sorta hoping that there would be animal allergies..like dog...I even asked for her to make sure to give him a good dose of the dog stuff. I still can't believe that there were no reactions. Mark is on his way to get a carpet cleaner. I have already dusted his room, removed all those dust gathers. And the journey begins!

Oh and all these trees, how exactly do you know how t stay away from them? I think it would be a GREAT idea to hae a diagram of each tree to carry with you ALL the time to make sure you are not near any of them. You could put it in your fanny pack! because that woudl be COOL! hahaha j/k
