What A Week

This week has been very short and very long. I think that because the weather is in the 70's one day and then rain and hail the next. We want to be outside working in the yard when it is nice and quilting and watching the discovery channel when the weather is lousy. One bright spot this week was this "job" that Michael brought home. One of his teachers made a special point to show me his paper before he brought it home. Not bad for a preschooler. I think we are going to be in trouble about the third grade when he is smarted than the rest of us.There were several track meets at school this week. Sarah threw the discus 77 plus ' and the shot put 30 '01.00 ". She looked Greater Miami Conference rankings...not to brag but as a freshman she is ranked 5th in the conference...31'01.50"...Not too bad! She is only allowed to participate in one meet a week so on Thursday she was able to help in the pit. I think she had as much fun doing that as she does participating in the meet. Mark's day off this week was supposed to be that day that we worked in the yard all day...the weather said no way...cold, windy and rainy...so we choose to visit Lowe's just to see what kind of trees they had. Well, we found the jackpot of all yellow tag sale. Some of the plants had gotten damaged by the frost...There is a butterfly bush, three hydrangeas and several others that I have no idea what they are...about $300.00 worth of plants for less that $50.00..what a deal!!!! We also got three pink phlox and two aquelegia plants. We rested a day in between taking out 5 or more bushes (I lost count after 5 but my body seems to be telling me it was more like 50). We also planted three bee balm under the "red tree"...I can't remember what it is called. I transplanted hosta and iris all over the yard from the strip if flowers out in the middle of the yard. We also started mulching all the leaves that we pushed to the back of the yard. Mark finally got his compost bin. We made one from wire and slotted PVC pipe. Now we just have to mulch all the leaves and remember to put kitchen scraps in it. I finally got around to moving the wood pile. We hope to burn the little twigs this coming week. Now we can plant more ground cover and maybe the vinca vine will come back. We ended up at another nursery that was just opening when we lived in Anderson. It reminds us of our favorite nursery in WI. It had barns and rock paths with rock gardens...right up our alley. We finally found one of my favorite plants..ligularia. When it rains water gathers on its leaves and the droplets look like diamonds. We got some catmint and a pulmonaria. We are slowly filling up all the empty spots in the yard. Next spring and summer we should have a "riot of color".This was a big week for Michael...we registered him for Kindergarten. We found out if the BOE does not change the boundaries for the schools, Michael will get to ride the bus to school next year! He is so excited...ready to go to K tomorrow if it means getting to ride the bus. And Luke, his best bud from next door, will be riding with him. Life is good!

I didn't get any pictures but Emmy and I spent all day cooking for a baby shower for a couple expecting their first in a few months. We made mini cupcakes, turkey and spinach mini muffin things and fruit kabobs. So today will be my day of rest...has to be, Michael is running a high temp and feeling awful. We are both pooped because he was up all night. But the good thing is Planet Earth is on all day and we love it!
