Spring Rush

The last few days have been absolutely beautiful. But today is another story. Today's high is going to be a whopping 40 degrees with the night time lows in the 20's. Oh, yea, they say it is supposed to snow this week too. Our garden is coming right along. We planted two raised beds this year. One has onions and broccoli and the other has sweet peas and spring lettuce. Mark chose these vegetables because they are all cold weather plants. Little did we know that they might freeze. How do you like our little pea trellis? I made it the other day. I was trying to replicate the trellises that we had seen at Monticello...Thomas Jefferson's home in VA. We will see how they do. Mark doesn't thing they are big enough.Yesterday Michael and I moved a yard of mulch in a few hours. You should have see my helper! He worked really hard. I thought I might end up with stitches a few times from his shovel but I am happy to report all the mulch is on the plants and the truck is cleaned out. Emmy brought lunch and helped us with the last 1/3 of the truck. Michael even ended up with a little sunburn on his shoulders. He is now know as King of the Mulch. This morning Mark decided that we should make some hoop houses over the vegetable beds. So this is what you see. We are hoping that this will keep the plants from freezing tonight and for the rest of the week. Such farmers we are! Our kids will probably think of another name for us!

wow looks like you have a regular old green house. Are you sure that you are not trying to recreate the pioneer days doing all this work your self, growing things, and builing green houses. Well cassie claims should would be a good amish wife and well maybe you have the pioneer wife covered so what does that leave me?
