Lion King
It seems like forever ago when I opened a Christmas gift and got seven tickets for The Lion King. Michael and I thought that this day would never come. Mark and I, Emmy, Bryce and Tini, Sarah, Michael and I got dressed in our "gentlemen clothes" and went to the Aronoff Center in the "big city" to experience something truly amazing. Michael was beside himself, to say the least! We made our way to the balcony and found our seats. The lights went down and Michael started....he wasn't so much amazed by the colorful costumes or the amazing voices or the really cool animals...no, he wanted to know how it all worked...how did they get Pride Rock to move in circles...how did they fly thru the air, how did the steam come up from the floor...on and on and on. He did finally realize that some of the characters were puppets. They was really cool. I then got a dissertation on how humans make puppets work and talk. You can only imagine. When the lights went up for intermission, his eyes got huge and he almost started to cry...thinking that he play was over. I explained what intermission was and the big sister Emmy took him to get a drink of "seventeen" in a really cool Lion King cup with a straw. He was in heaven! During the rest on intermission he wanted me to read about all the actors. We matched the faces with the characters that they played. And it was okay that Rafiki was a girl. After the play we decided that we were all starving so we decided to go to dinner. We ended up at P.F. Chang's. Everyone beat us there because we had a hard time getting out of the parking garage. When I opened the doors to the restaurant Michael said, "we are going to eat at this fancy place." They fixed him a special order of "chicken nuggets".
What a night to remember! Only wish that Cassie, Trevor and Ellis could have been with us. Maybe next year who knows.
