Mom and Me 2007

Let me just begin this tale stating that Michael has had a tough week with his asthma...so most of you understand that he is a bear when he doesn't feel well. That said, now you will understand all the unsmiling pictures that are to follow.
Today was Mom and Me Day at school. For about 45 minutes the preschoolers and their Moms meet in the gym to do all sorts of activities...modeled art projects...and you know how I feel about those...anyway. We started out finding the poster on the wall. This was about the only smile I saw. Standing beside Michael is Alex, one of his best buddies. On the other side is Jimmy. We hope to play with Jimmy and even have a picnic with his Mom and little sister when the weather gets warmer. And Avery decided at the last minute that he wanted to walk over to say something to Ms. Westerman. Let me give you the background for the drawing that Michael is so proudly displaying. First we begin with "My Mom always says yes to me at lunch time." As you might have already guessed, Michael is really serious about his food. I guess he understands that he gets three squares a day and two snacks, no more....remember the Ellis Family is participating in Mom's Boot Camp...even if they didn't sign up for it. Mom rules. Then we move on to the fact that I make the best hot dogs. And to think of all that time I have spent with Rachael Ray, Paula Dean and the Food Network Chefs..hot dogs? And lastly, out of the mouths of babes..."When I am at school my Mom is working on the computer". He has that part almost right...computer time working on this blog. I had to have him explain the drawing. It is me, sitting in Dad's chair watching the weather channel. There is a smile on my face because it is going to be warm. Now that I have explained it all, here is a close up for you... This is where the happy Michael takes a vacation. Ms. Westerman announced that is was time to sing for the Moms. That is when the tears started to fall. I have figured out that Michael DOES NOT like to be in the lime light, unlike his big sister. He would rather take a beating. The funny thing is he will sing at the top of his lungs of he knows no one is watching. So while all the other kids were singing and having a great time, there stood Mr. Michael with a sour puss.
There were several activity stations around the gym. Michael decided that he wanted to tear paper to make a flower. We worked on that a long time until Ms.
Westerman suggested that Michael go to another activity. He really wanted to finish the flower but reluctantly moved on to something else. We ended up with a sun catcher, two flower hats (that are stunning) and some hand prints. The world began to turn around when we finally made it home for lunch...mac and cheese, apple sauce and some "seventeen".

Imagine four of us huddled around the computer reading your blog. There were lots of "oh, look how big Michael is," and "he still calls it seventeen." The kids love your blog. We laugh and cry sometimes when we read it. Thanks for taking the time to do it so your friends and family around the country can keep up with what's happening in your lives.
