First Day of Spring
I am loving life today! It is the first day of spring. The windows in the house are open and I am digging in the dirt! What could be better! As I was walking around the yard this morning I found lots of things blooming or getting ready to bloom. 
I have been watching these green shoots for about a week. Today I find out that they are purple and white crocus. So far there are a total of five. It really must be spring. 
But in the same bed on the other side you will find these sad looking thawed daffodils. They look really bad but I understand from P. Allen Smith on HGTV that if I just leave them alone they will be fine. So, I guess we will see. 
This is vinca vine. It used to cover 3/4 of the landscaping. Little by little Mark, Bryce and I have been mowing it down or pulling it out by its roots. This stuff is really pretty with the little purple flowers but it just takes over. We will just have to deal with that all summer until we figure out just what we want to do with the backyard.
When Mark and Kate came they brought a bag of ground cover that Papaw had dug up. I decided to replant it around the rocks under the red tree.(I must find out what kind of tree that is) Then I started working to the right of the red tree. 
There I noticed that the blue jay that I had seen at the suet feeder, had unhooked the latch and has taken the suet somewhere else. The last time I found it, it was pushed up against the side of the house and half covered up....I wonder if Red from next door had a little to do with that? There are still more unbloomed surprises in the front yard. I can imagine that they are more daffodils. I guess the previous owner time 2 knew that deer don't like the taste of daffodils...hence tons coming up untouched.
KANSAS UPDATE: They made a trip to the old train store this morning. Michael is now the proud owner of several different cars to go behind his Air Force engine. Oh, and they found his favorite train...the Big Boy on a t-shirt. From what Emmy says it might take a few washings in hot water and a few years for him to grow into it.
