Been Busy

Thought I had better get this blog in because it was 70 degrees today and I got a taste of the spring air. I even worked in the yard a little today. You won't believe this one, my neighbor that doesn't sweat is going to help me take out four bushes tomorrow morning before the rain comes. I'll be sure to take some pictures. We decided that we should replace the bushes with some ornamental grasses. Renee wants to also put in an azalea bush. The ground is already covered with vinca vine which has a small light purple flower. Last fall I put in a few iris from Papaw. I am so excited to see what comes up this spring...it will be our first here.

I have been trying to use up all of my quilting scraps. I only have one drawer of scraps left. I have tried to do a few new things and yesterday I got out the quilting machine and started to practice stippling...I am horrible. So here is what I have been doing...This is my version of an Amish quilt that I made for my sister. It is a littl smaller and made from that quilts scraps.
It was fun to make because I did it all from memory. Now, I know that my children are laughing out loud about now. They know that I can't remember what I fixed for dinner last night. But for some reason I could remember how it went. I even put it on point...which was amazing to even me.I even was able to figure out how to have a pieced back. And you will notice the intricate quilting. I actually think that the back quilting is much nicer looking than the front. I tried something else new. I used invisible thread and stitched in the ditch to attach the binding. I have decided that if I do this again that I will piece the binding differently. I wish I has done the binding by hand...oh well.Remember all the 3 1/2 inch squares...all 744 of them? This is what the quilt top ended up looking like. It is huge...88X110...I think the largest top I have ever pieced. I am not sure that it will fit on the quilting frame. This is supposed to be the back for the above quilt. I think I will used it as another quilt top. It is almost as big as the 744 quilt...weighing in at 90X105. It took Mark and Sarah standing together to hold the quilts up for the picture. And finally, I used the rest of the scraps to make some 1/2 square triangles...90 to be exact. This is about the same size as the Amish quilt. I still have to quilt it. The next day that it rains I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and try to make the stippling look good. Wish me lots of luck.

Wow, I recognize a lot of the colors and patterns from previous quilts. In fact, I looked at mine and saw alot in yours. The kids and I really like the back of the Amish quilt. That turned out great.
