Snow Night...Snow Day

YEA!!!! We finally got our first good snow. Yesterday all over the TV they were predicting big bad snow. The Mayor even went so far as to let workers/students go home early before the storm hit. Mark and I were running errands when it started...a little sooner than expected. We made it home just in time to see things turn ugly. Some of the kids on buses didn't make it home until 10PM last night. We ended up with 6-8 inches of the most beautiful white fluffy snow. We are all cozy doing what we like to do, Michael building in the basement... I was quilting and Sarah was on the computer or on the phone...Mark yells down the stairs to tell me that the snow had stopped and he was going out to clear off the driveway...did I want to help. We not only did I want to help...Michael about jumped out of his skin...he was going to get to play outside in the dark in the snow. Our cars buried! And all Michael could say was that he wanted to make three "snowmans". I tried my best to explain to him that this wasn't the right kind of snow. After showing him that I couldn't even make a snowball he was satisfied to make snow angels. Our front yard looks like a snow angel resting place. Not long after tackling the driveway, I see our neighbors garage door go up...out comes Luke, his Mom and Dad, and of course Red, the crazy dog We decide to start at the top of the driveway and work our way down to the street that hasn't been plowed yet. Mark starts his car and turns on the lights so we can see. I look over in our neighbors driveway and see Renee working hard with a coal shovel. Mind you, this woman never breaks a sweat. She is shoveling for all it is worth. John is amazed. All he can say is "Where's that snow blower?"...it is in the barn not working. Renee even offers to take it to her mechanic. Sarah is sweeping the top 3 inches of snow so I can come behind her with the snow shovel. She decides that this is too boring...go figure...so she takes the snow shovel and goes around to the back of the cars. In a few minutes Mark checks on her progress...he finds her working hard at not working hard. She is demoted to toboggan run building for the boys. That's just fine with her. So Sarah, Michael, Luke and Red head for the bottom part of the driveway. The snow is so deep that we have to push start them every time until there is a deep path to the bottom of the driveway. Red thinks it is a fun game to run beside the sled and grab hats. Luke went through two hats and one scarf. We should have taken video of Renee chasing Red through the yard to get the hats. We could have won a million dollars. Mark decided that we needed to move the fire pit to the top of the driveway to keep the boys warm...we are the only ones sweating. No luck, it is frozen solid to the ground. So to end a perfect night in the snow...we have a SNOW DAY tomorrow...snow emergencies all around us...and warm beds to snuggle up in. Can't wait to get out in the snow tomorrow.

How fun! Looks like Michael finally got his wish. I love to watch kids get so excited about things we adults find so every day...I love reading the Michael stories on here! :o)

looks like fun. i wish we could all be there to play in it together, and tell sarah i dont blame her. i would rather be on sled detail than shovel detail any day!

I miss shoveling together, calling each other on the phone to talk about the snow fall while we're looking out our windows waving and laughing, making snow angels with the kids, having Mark bring the snow blower around to do all our driveways, snowmen on our front lawns, shoveling a path from my house to yours, hot tubbing in negative degrees, running back to my house with frozen hair, but most of all I miss the kids all playing together in the snow. It looks like you all had a great time shoveling and playing. I hope you don't get the cold snap we are going through. It's been below zero since Friday night.
