Nothing Much

This week has been pretty laid back...I think it might be this crazy cold weather. Mother Nature is being so cruel. Everyone around us has been blessed with beautiful snowfalls. All we get is a dusting here and there. It has been so nasty that we haven't seen Emmy or the girls this week...and that hardly ever happens. Michael keeps asking where they are. Oh, and all the cold relentless wind. Sometimes I think I am back in WI. Speaking of snow..today when I was dropping Michael off at school, I overheard two Mom's talking about the snow. Seems that the school has a way to help Mother Nature dump some of that white stuff our way...sleeping in your pj's wrong side out. Another "Michaelism"...instead of frostbite...Michael calls it snowbite. He has a few chapped spots on his hands from being out in the snow without gloves last week.
Michael has been helping more in the kitchen lately. Yesterday morning before Mark went out of town and Michael was off to school we were cooking scrambled eggs.. Michael calls himself the chef and I am just his helper. He actually does well. He can crack an egg without getting any shell in the bowl...something I haven't mastered yet. Then he scrambled with the best of the Top Chef's (My new favorite show). He has had a pretty good week at school. We lost the trip to Chuckie Cheese for Feb already. Today the stubborn side of Michael visited school. Thanks heavens his teacher stands her ground. He got to go to his friend Logan's for a whole day. As soon as he got out of their car he was talking about a sleep over. He has all his important sleep over items laid up at the top of the steps right outside his room...except his sleeping bag. I think Logan's Mom is actually thinking about having Michael and Alex over this weekend. We will see. I have been in the basement all week. I have found that the laundry room is very warm...especially when you keep the washer and dryer busy. And having the furnace at my back is an added plus. I have decided that I am going to make a quilt out of all my scraps. So I have been finding, pressing and cutting 3 and 1/2 inch squares. It has been fun remembering all the quilts that have been made and remembering all the people that they were made for. Some bring a big smile and then some make me cry. After I get all the squares cut I am going to make a Gees Bend quilt (http://www.quiltsofgeesbend.com/) from all the little scraps. You have to read the story behind these quilts. It is amazing. The summer that Cassie lived with us in WI, the quilts were on display at the Art Museum and Cassie and I got to go. They are amazing. I think I enjoyed the stories that were told just as much as looking at the quilts. I have made a few Gees Bend quilts from the scraps ...they ended up being small lap quilts. Now with all the scraps that I have, I think I can make a larger wall hanging or a twin size quilt. We will see. It will be a long process...adding to it after each quilt I make from now on. Maybe I will have the quilt top made by the time I die and Cassie, Emmy and Sarah can have a quilting bee and finish it. And of course tell all the stupid Mom stories...
SARAH BETH UPDATE: Sarah Beth had her day of testing in Lexington, KY. She is now at home resting and regaining her strength. Keep her in your prayers as she fights this cancer. She is truly a godly woman full of faith..she is an awesome example to all of us. Her parents are caring for her and making sure she eats right and makes it to all those doctor's appointments. And I am positive that her brothers are helping drive her crazy!
SARAH #2: I got an email yesterday from a cousin in WI telling me that her sister, Sarah, was having breast surgery. After a routine mammogram, Sarah in CA, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had successful surgery and is scheduled for radiation. Please pray for both our Sarah's. It is a little hard to sew when you have an entire train station surrounding your sewing machine. This is what happens when I have do do laundry or go to the bathroom. Michael uses every available space to build. I think he has graduated from the floor to his "train table" just like at the Railraod Museum. This could be a definite problem.
It's now Friday morning. Once again we got some snow..I could sneeze so much snow. But our temperatures are down in the single digits. Michael and I keep warm down in the basement..warmest place in the house which really seems strange to me...but....here is a picture of what a little mind can build. Look out Frank Lloyd Wright. I think we might have an architect in our futures....after and engineer of course.
If you want to find out more information about Michael's preschool class...go to...https://www.edline.net/pages/Milford_School_District/Milford_Preschool..under Contents..click on Ms. Westerman's class. Michael is in the AM class. As you can see by Michael's face...he was not ready to com home from the sleep over at Logan's. All reports were good. They had fun..had lots of pizza...a PBJ snack around midnight and finally crashed around 1AM. Michael has already asked to have another sleep over on Sunday!Just a little picture of the same flower that you read about just last week. As you can see, this silly thing is about to bloom. I can almost guarentee that I will have one of the first flowers to bloom in our neighborhood. I am praying that the cold weather that we are supposed to be getting won't kill this and other flowers in the yard that seem to be confused. But the groundhog did say that spring is just around the corner.......

I don't think you want to be back in Wisconsin on this Monday morning. The temp when I woke up was minus thirteen with windchill below 35. School is closed today and I have a house full of kids. The quilt you are making reminds me of the one you made for me. In fact, I took it camping with us this weekend. Yes, I said camping. Boy scouts camp in all kids of weather. Of course we were in a heated cabin, fooled you. Some of the boys wanted to sleep in a tent to get their freeze out patch, but we told them we didn't want to bury any frozen boys after minus twelve on saturday night so they had to stay in the cabin with us. There were tewnty three boys and leaders taking up every availible piece of floor. It was a blast.
