Finally, some snow

We have been dreaming of snow. Michael seems to think that if it snows...it is Christmas again. Sorry Buddy! Temperatures are dropping as we speak and this morning when we took Sarah to school I think I saw little, little, little, flakes of snow. It's now about 2:30PM and we have a small, small amount of snow. When I picked Michael up from Preschool, he couldn't run fast enough to the play ground to make a snow angel. Actually it turned out to be a mulch angel.. Once he got home the only place we could find any accumulation of snow was outside his bedroom window. So, hey why not...so we played in the window. We made snowballs and threw them down to the bird feeders in the backyard. Speaking of birds, I noticed that our big woodpecker brought his brother for lunch. Today we had lots of juncos, and a new woodpecker...a red-bellied woodpecker.Mark and I decided that the picture of Sarah and Michael just didn't fit in the kitchen. So I went to the basement to my box of treasures that I haven't figured out where to put yet...and found this feed sack. As you will notice, it is from Huntington WV...known to us hillbillies as God's Country. No more ugly phone plate. And no more mourning picture. I think it works well. Now let's see what else is in the box....I know there are still lots of treasures. Another first for me...I locked my keys in the rental car on Monday night after Bible Study... $35.00 and 45 minutes later I am in the car. The guy was really nice. He even let me hold the flashlight. I told him that I had never locked my keys in the car...all he said was"Well, I guess you can't say that anymore." Ha, Ha, real funny! I have been a cooking fool this week. Something new for everyday. Sunday afternoon I got through my recipe files, cookbooks and my new favorite Kraft Foods magazine. It might be a new way to make fries or a delicious pound cake with strawberries. Then I check the calendar to see what the week looks like for us and what days Mark is supposed to have off. Then the planning and shuffling begins. I am trying to mix the new with the old. Put some spice into dinner time..no pun intended. I have realized that I tend to look at soups and stews and anything bread!
The only problem is...where do you store all the leftovers. Sarah hates leftovers, but I refuse to go to the store until they are all eaten and I have room in the fridge and pantry for the new groceries. By the looks of this picture it might be leftovers for all next week. Emmy tries to help Sarah out by stopping by and taking a bag full of food home. Michael told me last night that I needed to stop making soup. He would rather have hamburgers with ketsup.Friday night about 7:30PM, I was talking to Katherine on the phone and found out that Papaw was taking down wallpaper and painting the family room. I got off the phone and told Mark...about 10 minutes later we were in the car heading for Huntington. (I love being able to do that!) They were shocked to see us, to say the least. We ripped off two layers of wallpaper , carefully removed moldings and trim boards, and tried to come to a conclusion on what color would be the best...Battleship grey, mauve, some kind of green...the discussion went on for hours. Saturday morning Mark got up and was on the hunt for paint. We had all agreed on a reddish brown. After going to three different stores in three different sections of Huntington, Mark decided on Barn...funny that is the same color as our kitchen. Three coats and two gallons later it looks great. We had to leave Huntington a little early because of the weather..snow and ice..so Papaw is left with finishing up putting the trim on. I forgot my camera but Emmy took some shots with hers. It was after dark when we got home but that didn't stop Sarah and Michael from making a snowman and playing in the snow. They had a blast! They both would stay outside until their noses froze and fall off. I think they must be part Eskimo! Michael can hardly stay out of the living room...he has checked on the snowman 6 times since he has been out of the bath tub. Tomorrow after school he wants me to help him build another one just as tall as me. Then we must take a picture of them and make cards for all of his friends at school. I hope that it snows some tonight while we are asleep. And I think I should probably go to bed right now because Michael will be up bright and early checking on the snowman and getting ready to make another one. Sarah on the other hand is praying for a snow day so that she can sleep in. Wish me luck!

I think you are right those two just have it in their blood or something because the snowmen that Emmy, Bryce, and I made never came close to even resembling that one!

Get the pictures from Emmy. I won't believe it until I see it the Mamaw has deviated from the traditional colors of pink, mauve, and rosebud.
