COLD, Snow, and more cold
I realized we are back in Cincinnati when Monday morning there was a two hour delay because we got about 2 inches of snow. But I will have to give it to the road crews...the ice and snow were cleared from all the streets. Unlike Topeka, where they just throw sand in the center of the intersections and hope for the best. Michael had his first official play date with a two friends from his class. Alex loves trains but not to the Michael degree. (Alex moved here from Lexington, KY..a familiar sounding southern drawl) Logan got to play also. For the longest time I have been trying to figure out who Logan reminds me of. Sarah nailed it today when she reminded me a of good friend in WI...AJ...I know that I have found AJ's twin.
Tomorrow is a big day. Betsy is coming over and we are going to begin making our t-shirt quilts. I have gotten t-shirts from my niece and Betsy is making a quilt for her son, Fred. I can hardly wait. We are planning to give them as graduation gifts in June. While we were busy figuring, pressing, sorting, cutting, and more sorting....Michael was busy with his Tinker toys.
Here is an example of what his little brain is thinking of and what his little brain can figure out. And by the way, that is his Pizza smile...you know when you take a picture your tell your subject to say cheese...Michael says pizza.
For those of you who go way back with the Ellis family...Sarah Beth and her family spent a night in the ER in Huntington and then a night and day in the hospital in Lexington, KY. I am in awe of her trust and her strength...actually the strength of the entire family.
Once again, a two hour delay because there was a dusting of snow? But this time Mark and Sarah made it all the way to school..funny there was no traffic or no one in the parking lot...DUH! So I have been running the bus service. Haven't gotten too much accomplished today. Michael and I took a snow shovel and big push broom to the driveway to remove all that snow!!! I wish every time we had to clear the driveway it was that easy. Today,Thursday, there is little more snow but thankfully no school closings. But the great news about today it that my van is back to normal and we can pick it up today. YEA! And the bad news is that Michael got a thumbs down at school today. Seems he had a lot of trouble keeping his frustrations to himself. That temper and stubbornness gets him every time. The bad news is that he hasn't realized that it just caused him a trip to Chuckie Cheese. We have the thumbs up/thumbs down report everyday from preschool. We started out earning a day out for lunch on Fridays with Emmy and the girls if he got an entire week with thumbs up. He had been doing so well with that we decided if he could go an entire month with all thumbs up he earned a trip to Chuckie Cheese. He only had four days left. Bummer! It is not going to be pretty.Saturday morning is supposed to be the morning that you get to sleep in and stay in your jammies all day. Oh, no, not us. We were up at the crack of dawn to drive a hour and a half to Cedarville University for our first indoor track meet. Sarah is throwing the shot put. Let me just tell you how much fun we had. We entertained Michael and all those around us for ...oh hours...until 5pm when Sarah began to warm up for her one and only event. Here she is getting her instructions. She is the one in the back in red and white. Here she is with a case of the nerves and her first throw. She stepped in front of the throwing ring (that's probably not the right track and field terminology but you know what I mean). It was a pretty good throw but didn't count. Second throw much like the first. But at least we got a smile this time. Good form...needs to push it up to the lights. Last year in middle school, her PR (personal record) was 28'6" with a 6 pound shot. In high school the girls use an eight pound shot. Threes a charm...form better but still needs to push it to the lights and have a little more confidence. 25'4" was her best today. She will get lots of practice because the next meet is March second at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. We have already decided that we will pay Emmy time and a half to watch Michael that day. And we will spend our time in the infield in comfortable chairs with a picnic basket full of food and drinks. See, I told you she way all smiles! We have a deal...Cassie and Emmy always were encouraged to run the fastest hurdles or to jump the longest long jump with the award being a milkshake. Sarah has opted for ice cream when she throws 30' or better. Her goal by the time she is a senior...40'. Michael is thrilled...he gets some to and he doesn't even have to do anything! Can't beat that! We met some really nice people from the school. And I have to say that the kids that helped out from Cedarville were all smiles and very friendly...even at 9AM on a Saturday morning. And Mark has already signed us up to help with the track meets in the spring. I think he misses the interactions with all the kids. One of Sarah's coaches used to be one of the coaches for Cassie and Emmy. Coach Korell was also a football coach for Bryce in high school. Small world.
