A Quick Trip Back Home
We blew in and we blew out on a Saturday. We tried to see everyone that we possibly could. We had to go to Aunt Kate's and Uncle Mark's to pick up the decon's bench my dad made for them years and years ago. They gave it to Sarah, and she was so excited about it. She had no idea we were going to pick it up for her. We got to see Casey and her girls. The boys were out doing their own thing...golfing, I think.
We got to take Jeremy's boys to the house that they own in Huntington. They were a long way from Auburn, Alabama. We had a good time catching up with Jeremy and Sharon.
And then there was this nut! Terry Wayne. There is no one like him on the planet!
We spent some time porch sitting with Peg. It was so great to see her. She hasn't changed a bit. 90 and still kicking. We reminisced about the old days at BHBC.
I asked Terry Wayne to get a selfie because I forgot, and this is what I got. This is Judy, his better half. They live in NC. They introduced us to Holden Beach, and we are so thankful that they did.
While we were at Aunt Kate's, we got to see Peanut get ready for the homecoming dance.
Lunch at my favorite hot dog stop...Stewarts.
And finally, the reason we crammed all of this in one day...under that black garbage bag is a copper apple butter kettle, the original paddle, and a replacement paddle that belonged to Jack and Peg. I can't tell the story without my eyes leaking. We used to spend the weekend at Jack and Peg's making apple butter. Great friends and the best memories. Jack was a special man to a lot of people, but he was someone whom I looked up to. A godly man for sure. He called Cassie and Emmy the twinzers because I think he couldn't tell them apart. He would bring the scouts to Day Camp and do amazing things like cook an egg on a rock! He could tell stories from now until next week. I sure miss that guy. So come this fall or next, we will be making apple butter over the fire, stirring that kettle all night long, and making biscuits and bacon for breakfast just like Peg taught me.
I can smell and taste it now.
