AT Adventure Day 2...Still Trying To Get There

We have to travel days to get to the first state on the AT that we need to hike in.  The first night on the trip we gt to pamper ourselves with a night in civilization...running water and flush toilets.  Tonight we will be camping in a KOA (our first experience at a KOA in White River Junction, Quechee, VT)

Filling up for the day.

I fell in love with the New England look.

Found a really cool spot for lunch in the Lake Charles area.

They jsut love helping me document our trip can't you tell?  We got to play around in the store while we waited to be seated.

We thought we all needed a fox blankie.

Thought seriously about a little moose hat.

Alaire tried to talk us into buying her a throne.

A little bit of barn education while we waited.

And a little bit of history.

This Reuben hooked Elis for the rest of the trip.

A BLT grilled cheese.

This girl loves a good burger.

Reuban for Pappy too.

Our waitress gave us some snacks for the car.

We finally made it to the first state on The Fourteen State AT Challenge.

So far we have driven 834.4 miles.  I think it was about nine-hour day of driving.  We are still listening to The Boys In The Boat.

Home sweet home for a few days.  Now we are off to the store for some dinner and breakfast stuff.

Ellis cooking the taco meat.

Alaire was on lemonade duty.

Alaire doing some onion and tomato prep.

Pappy enjoying a little before dinner snack.

Taco dinner under the big top.

And then there are the dishes.

Getting ready for bed...9PM...hiker's midnight.

One of my favorite times of the day...right before we close our eyes and dream of trails to come in the morning, we read a chapter from The Acorn People.  I first read it in grad school and it became one of my favorite books.  They were hooked after the first night.  There is a slight problem.  I can't read it without crying.  I don't know why but it makes me cry.  I had to hand off to Mark.
