It Was A Good Thought
We had such a good plan. Get up early and be on the road headed to IN for Ellis's soccer game and Alaire's birthday celebration. Be there way before the game. And this happened and we were about two miles east of the IN border in Harrison, OH.
We came up behind a car that stunk! Then something dropped from underneath that car and we managed to run over it. The thump sounded like it was a huge piece of metal. Less than a minute and the tire light came on. Then that sickening sound of a flat tire.
Mark managed to get us off the road with no problem. The problem...two disappointed senior citizens stranded on the side of the road. I get out the little black bag that the dealership gave us. Luckily or not so lucky we found where we had paid for something that included roadside assistance. YEA! We called Honda and they hooked up with their people at Jack Rabbit Roadside "Fastest Response Time In History."
We called Jack Rabbit and they promised to be out in 45 minutes. Too good to be ture. After 45 we called them back. "We can't find you." It will be another 45 minutes. Sounded like we would be on the side of the road for who knows how long. Several more phone calls and we are ready to do it ourselves.
So back to the book. We unloaded the back including the dog and all. So now two gerries, a dog and a bunch of birthday gifts on the side of the road changing a tire...in the dark with trucks, big trucks, and cars whizzing by in the closest land! Yikes!
Not one person stopped to help. Lots honked to say good morning but no stoppers.
And here comes the sun...made me feel a little better at least they could see us now.
Look at us. changed that stinking tire all by ourselves. Thanks a lot, Jack Rabbit for nothing.
Don't know what we all would do if we didn't have Google. I found that the closest Tire Discounters was about three miles down the road. And they opened at 8 AM. We would be the first in line! Funny story...as we were turning into Tire Discounters Julie from Jack Rabbit called to say again that they couldn't find us. Well duh..we took care of business and were on our way. I forgot that the phone automatically comes across in the car. Out of my mouth flew...'get a life Julie, we did it ourselves. Thanks for nothing!' Oops! But their service is beyond rediculous. So now Honda and Julie and Jack Rabbit know exactly what we think of the service we did not receive from Julie and her friends.
We got to the door before they opened at 8 AM.
Good thing I had some snacks.
Getting 'er done!
Ella loved the warm blacktop and sunshine.
Back to the rest of the story. The people at Tire Discounters were great. Got us right in, watered the dog, got us coffee and sent us home with four new tires (something about the kind of drive the car is and the unbalanced effect if we just got one tire) and a hand full of coffee packets. Lots of 'what can we get you, you will be on your way to the soccer game in no time.' And they were right. But we missed the soccer game but were able to catch up with the birthday girl for her birthday lunch at Panda Express (tradition..you get to pick lunch out at your favorite lunch spot and then you choose the dinner menu).
The birthday girl and her very own RIPSTIK. And the soccer player in the back...they won their game 2-0. Cassie got some good pics for us to see.
I am now the proud rock passier outer person of these rocks that Alaire and her friends painted. They will be showing up in Milford as soon as I can spray them.
WE had a birthday dinner of bleu cheeseburgers, roasted broccoli, and mashed potatoes. The AllyPally cake with a little caramel drizzle.
She's double digits now! Happy birthday, Alaire. One I won't ever forget.
