2011 Walk-A-Thon

Each year out school hold a walk-a-thon to raise money for all the 'stuff' teachers need to do their jobs. Hopefully as in the past it will be the  only fundraiser that we have to do during this year.  Mr Dunn, our awesome Principal, always comes up with the coolest ideas.  Last year to kick things off he parachuted onto the school grounds in front of hundreds of screaming children.  He had to think long and hard to top that one.

Last night he spent the night on the roof of the school in a tent.  He called it his Eagle Nest.  He even did announcements during school on Thursday from the nest.

When i went to pick Michael up from dodge ball last night (more on that later) this is what we found.  Mr. Dunn chasing the shade.  He had spent the day on the roof.  Temps on the ground were hovering around the high seventies.

He was looking a little ragged around 4:30pm.

Today at one was the big reveal...what would he do this year but fly a helicopter to the school and land in the filed  in front of all the kids, teachers and parents/siblings.

That's him in the red shirt!

There were two special passengers with him, Michael's teacher being one of them.

I saw it coming...the blast of dried grass.  Mr Renee and I made a shield around the yahoos so they would not be covered in grass.

In this sea of orange is a little boy waiting for his teacher to jump out of the helicopter.

Mr. Dunn getting his daily run in as he high fives every kids on the field.

Michael, Luke, Ethan and Ashley right before the walk started.

Michael walking with his scout buddy and close Ninjago ninja.

Love that smile!

Carter missed most of the walk...'heck with this stuff I'm taking a nap!'

Making the last turn before the home stretch.

If you would like to see more pictures (which are great by the way) please go to Facebook and 'friend' Meadowview Elementary. There are even two videos shot from inside the helicopter.  I even saw us! We are trying to get lots of 'friends'...gotta have more that the junior high!

FYI from Mr. Dunn...

As of right now, the Meadowview families have raised $20,000. That is really
close to our goal of $25,000. Hopefully we will still have some student
envelopes that will arrive this week. If you did not turn in your walkathon
envelope, or you gather more pledges this weekend, please bring that money in
next week. GREAT JOB!

Thanks,
Mr. Dunn

Hi Jan! I love that you take your own time to so beautifully document these moments! Thank you for sharing the memories of the day, and for including my little ninja :-)
