Columbus Zoo

Once again we loaded up the family truckster and headed for the Interstate. This weekend we were headed for Columbus, OH for the Half Marathon. Erika and Emmy have been training to run. Personally I think they are half nuts but I am also their biggest fan...after Cindy of course. But The race wasn't until Sunday so we had all weekend to explore our state capital. And we packed as much in as we could. First stop was the Zoo. And I have to say that I was impressed with this one. Nice walking and easy to follow the signs. And so much to see we are going to have to take another weekend trip.
According to the zoo keeper, the polar bear loves to make a big splash. This rock is about 5-6 feet from the water. We waited but he never jumped. Bummer!

Lion, tigers and bears...lets just say this one wasn't very much fun to watch.

Bear, bear, bears....everywhere you looked there were bears. This one went swimming for us. He was really funny, you should have heard the kids laughing at him.

Wouldn't you know that while I was looking at the other bears, these two decided it was time to play. So I missed the big cannon ball.

There was a fun play area for the kids. Michael likes this little tiny polar bear.

I had to get some shots for Emmy of the eagles. She opted to go shopping with Cindy and Erika rather that walk around the zoo with us. She had to save her legs...

These birds were stunning. Very regal standing in the sun.

This swan played peek-a-boo with me for the longest time.

These poor elephants looked so sad. I felt sorry for them.

Bats sleeping all over the place in the building with the female elephants and their babies.

The big guy came out to see what was going on.

Michael is so much the little sponge. I don't know how his brain stores everything he reads but it does.

And to top the morning off, lunch at Culver's and talking to the Bresson's while they are in NC...remembering all the times we sat around a table at Culver's and laughed and cried.

Once again eating our way thru OH...Emmy found the most awesome Italian restaurant real close to the Crown Plaza...Marcella's. I had a meat ball that I know what a pound and a half of meat. (CHECK IT OUT ON THEIR WEBSITE) We give it the Ellis Family Rating of two thumbs up!

HA! Not a bad idea! But I'd have to go back to do do-overs.
