CO...Denver Zoo

I love a city that has a zoo. I love a city that has a zoo with flat walking. I love a zoo that takes in injured animals and helps them recover from their injuries. And I love a zoo where all the volunteers are happy. I love the Denver Zoo. Ellis and Alaire call this the crazy bird. It is one of the first animals you meet when you walk into the zoo. It usually talks to you but not on the day that we were there. Maybe next time.
This tiger seemed to be having a little trouble with something on his paw.

I can't remember the polar bears name but I do remember the story about his scare. He was injured at another zoo. The Denver Zoo took him in and surgery was preformed. According the what Cassie heard, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Don't you just love the seriousness in this face?

She laid hundreds of eggs and is now waiting 9 months for them to hatch.

I could have stayed all day right her with the dragon lizard lady. The volunteers had some many interesting facts. She even let us touch the tooth of the Komono dragon.

This little guy is called the Jesus lizard. Because of his webbed feet he is able to walk on water.

Mom, do you like snakes? No Alaire, I don't like snakes. Wammy, do you like snakes? No Alaire, I don't like snakes. Michael.....
Don't we wish we could make our stomachs that flat. I love the design on the scales on her back.

This isn't the seal that I wanted to get a picture of. They have one that they rescued that has no back flipper. He just uses the little stub as a rudder. They aren't sure if he was born that way or if some creature had his tail for lunch.

I found it amazing how a camel chews. They must not have a problem with TMJ. They look so loose and able to move there jaws any way they want.

This little stinker kept us on the edge of the railing. He stood right at the edge of the rock like he was going to jump off. No amount of cheering was going to make him jump in.

Oh, how I wish he would have roared. I bet it is low and very loud. He looked so regal sitting on 'pride rock'.
How do they know that we are looking at them, waiting for just the right shot? Posing was this guys deal. We were able to see many angles of his profile. I was so excited that I forgot I had the telephoto lens with me. By the time I changed lens, he decided to turn totally around. I gotta do better. I love the gorillas. I could watch them all day long.

This is my favorite picture of the day. Sorry kids. I took several of these shots and then walked around to the other window to find a different angle. By the time I got there she had taken the blanket and put it totally over herself. So I feel really lucky to have gotten this shot.

They wore themselves out jumping. I think Ellis actually jumped the farthest. But looks like Michael jumped the highest this time.

All I can say is...this one is for you Emmy.

This was so sweet. This little monkey would come from the other side of the enclosure when he saw someone at the window. If you put you hand up on the glass and left it there, she would put her hand on top of it and then just look into your eyes. I would love to know what each of those little monkeys is thinking.
speaking of monkeys...look who is riding the carousel.

I thought Michael had a nice smile for the camera. Ellis was so excited to ride the cheetah. It made me a little dizzy to watch them go round and round.

And last but certainly not least in the minds of these three...the train ride. I got to go and Cassie and Trevor stayed back to rest up. I have to say that they had a wonderful collection of different kinds of roses all along the track. I wonder if they would notice if I took a start off of then then next time I pass thru town.

The polar bears name is Cranberry and the injured Sea Lion is Bismark. Nice blogs. Love the shot in the other one of A's cotton candy face!
