Emmy and Grace showed up today with Grace's Barbie bike. The first thing we did was to take off the training wheels. Emmy and Grace worked while Victor and I did our little thing for an hour. When I came outside, Grace wanted to show me what she could do. Emmy thought that she did better in the grass. Good thing Emmy had Michael out there helping her...
Once we thought Grace had the hang of it, we thought she could graduate to the street. We tried our best to stay in the shade. I have to say that all that smooth new blacktop helped keep things moving int he right direction. After a little while and a few Popsicles and cold water Emmy decided that we needed to make a Strider for her.The coolest thing since sliced bread. Click here to see what I mean. We took the smallest bike we had and did a "hystomy" on it...removing the chain and petals. Now all Grace would have to worry about would be her balance and steering. She looks pretty good! Yea Grace! When Emmy took her home the first thing she did when she got out of the car was to show everyone what she could do. Then Libby wanted to learn to ride a bike with no training wheels. After about 5 minutes they were riding all over their front yard.

Miss that cute little face. She looks so proud of herself at the end. Save that movie for her!
So have you used the "strider method" before and does it really work. I have a small bike that Josiah used to ride. It has a broken training wheel. I wonder if I should make it into a strider to help him learn to ride his regular bike. What do you think?

She is no Mr Kenny but Emmy looks like she is quite the teacher.
