Our Thanksgiving Feast
Why do we do this? Cook for days, get everything nice and pretty, eat for 10 minutes and have a messy kitchen to clean up that takes four days?
Michael's thoughts have been with the early settlers and the Native Americans. All he wanted was to cook the turkey on the campfire on a spit so he could turn it over and over...(I finally talked him into the oven), carrots...not cooked, just peeled and big, and corn.
Mark and I love to smell the turkey while we are sleeping so Emmy doctored it up with all kinds of spices and I put it in the oven baking bag in the roaster Papaw gave me and we were off to the races.Michel had to check the progress just before he went to bed last night...he told it that it was looking really good but not as good as the first one the Pilgrims had. Timing was perfect.....Mark got home from work around 1AM and the turkey was ready to rest. Mark and Bryce always share the carving duties. Each seems to have a better way of doing things. Who ever has the knife is the boss and the other is the...official tester. Mark actually did win out this year but I think he must have felt bad for Bryce so he let him have a turn....here he is sharing all the secrets of the carving of the perfect turkey.
But I think Bryce might have gotten the better end of the deal. (He really didn't want me to share this shot...sorry Bryce, had to do it)So here we are, one big happy family (minus Trevor, Cassie, Ellis and Alaire who are in IL celebrating with the Oakes side)...stuffing our faces and so thankful for so many different things.
