The Night before the End

Since we haven't had time to do much but care for the sick, Cassie,Emmy and I had to pack lots of stuff in our last night together. Mark decided that we need to send the Oakes off with there last meal from Cincinnati...LaRosa'a Pizza. That was fine with the rest of us also. Mind you that the Ellis Family can't just eat any old topping, we have to get the hottest, spiciest...but we did order the little one their own cheese pizza. (Don't you wish you had been here Bryce?) ...think she might have gone through the pantry and snagged a bottle of Montgomery Inn sauce to take back with her. Pizza eaten, little boys bathed and in bed, Alaire with her belly full and in warm pj's...Emmy, Cassie and I head for the basement...a place we affectionately call the laundry room/Mom's sewing room. I need to back up a little bit and give you some background on our sewing project. Cassie and I like to read The Pioneer Woman We had tried out hand at adding a caption to one of her pictures...a contest where the prize was a $500 gift certificate to the other electronics store our family and friends are not allowed to utter or even shop in...I was reading down thru the responses and clicked on a highlighted name. Little did I know this blog was being written right here in the big city...Mamma's Heart and Hearth...Cassie and I were looking at the beautiful pictures and reading the blog when we came across these little wool shoes. We fell in love with them. Just so happened that the pattern was right there at the click of the mouse. We read the directions and had just a few questions for our new best friend. An email or two and we were off and sewing. We made a practice pair that were way to small for Alaire's dainty little feet. Then we got the brainy idea to make her some little MaryJane's. Emmy was on the search for wool sweaters. You see, if you wash wool sweaters that you buy at a thrift store for .50 a piece and then dry it on HOT in the dryer...the end result is felted wool. Amazing I know. We make a pair of little shoes of Alaire. I still think we need to do a blanket stitch around the edges just to give them a more finished look. Cassie tried to find an outfit that matched and nothing that she had here was going to work so off we went to Kohl's right before they closed to find Alaire an outfit to match her outfit for her plane ride home.
You might be wondering where these new shoes are in this picture...seems that Alaire likes to kick her new shoes off every time someone puts them on. So Cassie decided rather than lose them in route to CO she would just put them on her right before they saw Trevor. (I am hoping that she writes a blog about her trip home for your enjoyment...check Cassie's blog

Oh! I love, love, love those shoes. I am going to have to make that blog one of my favorites. I am going shopping tomorrow for stuff to make some. Love reading what you guys are up to. I'm thinking we will have to have a road trip one Saturday to come play.
