The Next Food Network Stars

We are in a little rhythm here in the big city...cooking with the boys has turned into a weekly occurrence. Last night Luke and Michael (with a little help from Chef Mom) made spaghetti for dinner. Luke loves to cook, eat, play, sleep-over...whatever at our house...and we love every minutes of him being with us. I think he would move in if his Mom and Dad would let him. And Michael would probably move into Luke's house...and there are some days that I would let him. We are blessed to have such great fun neighbors!
As you can see Michael is smiling from ear to ear. He always has to have on his 'chef outfit' to cook. And if Michael has his on...so does Luke. But we couldn't find Luke's hat.
Michael watches so many cooking shows that he knows that the really good chefs 'wear a rag to wipe off the yucky stuff.' Being the never-ending teacher using those teachable moments...we learned about steam, hot surfaces, heat and safety. As you can see by the picture, the boys seemed to have it all under control. Well, that is until Luke forgot and picked up a hot lid with his bare hands...but he won't do that again...ever...no, he will not be scared for life...just maybe a little more careful around boiling water.
I think Michael has learned that a watched pot never boils. He must have lifted that lid a million times. So to pass the time, they learned to set the table. I should have taken a picture of that. Luke got out a knife, serving spoon and salad fork for everyone. Michael and Luke wrapped them all in paper towels. And if they didn't fit or look right, Michael just ripped them until they did. They put out the place mats and plastic and glass juice glasses for our drinks. Dinner was a success. I know this because Luke scrapped and scrapped to get every ounce of spaghetti sauce off of his plate. Michael scrapped and scrapped and got every little tiny morsel off his plate and asked for more. Only one plate per person...Mom's Boot Camp is back in full force. Maybe the next post about the boys cooking will be an actual recipe that they write. That should be fun!
