A GREAT Night

Last night was our big walk for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After working all day I drove home as fast as I could to pick up Sarah from school and delivered her home for a night of homework. I had just enough time to drop my school bag and put on my walking shoes. I headed back to school to help Barb finish up all the paperwork. Then we were off to Sawyer Point. Our plan was to get there early so we could get in line to pick up our t-shirts so we could wear them during the Walk. We got there early all right, the Volunteers were just getting their trainings. We ended up earning 16 t-shirts and 15 sweat shirts and a whole bunch of balloons. We quickly decided that no one would wear the black sweatshirts because it was about 90 degrees in the shade. We were able to park really close, Yea Barb!. So we dumped the shirts and took a walk around Sawyer Point to see all the vender's. We ended up eating dinner...popcorn for appetizers, pizza for the entree and an orange push-up for dessert. Oh, and a Crystal Light to drink. It wasn't too long after that delicious dinner that our team mates started showing up. We distributed the shirts and Kate's Mates stickers to identify us as a special family and friends team.As you can see, we are a pretty big team. We kept hearing that Kate was coming to walk with us, but we didn't see how that was possible. She had had I don't know how many rounds of chemo that week along with getting blood and platelets and here white count wasn't very high. But in just a little while, here comes Kate and family and all but one of her kids, (who is away at college). We were thrilled but a little concerned. So off we went walking along the Serpentine Wall and across the "blue bridge into Newport, past the Aquarium and back across the river on the "Purple People Eater bridge. The night was so beautiful. It was awesome so see so many people walking with balloons that were twinkling or just lit up. I had to stop and take a picture from the center of the bridge. I have been wanting a Cincinnati skyline for many, many years (Richard, how is that picture coming? This is what I got....I love the reflection of the lights on the water. Wish I had a panorama lens. After crossing back into Ohio, we all gathered to cheer for Kate when she finished. She is truly amazing. There were so many people trying to congratulate her without hugging her (germs) that it was hard to get a video.(check it out on the right side) It is not much but you can see the light on her face and hear her adoring fans. I almost forgot, our little group of walkers raised over $3000.00. Not bad for two weeks of work! Thank you to all who made donations!
