Fall Break In The Smokies
If you know me at all, you know that I love mountains! Way back in the summer, Mark made a reservation at Kirkland Creek Campgrounds in Bryson City, NC. We usually camp in a tent, but this time he reserved one of the cute little cabins. More on that later in the blog.
But first, a stop in Berea, Ky, for a little lunch. I thought we had eaten here before, but OH NO, we had not. The tavern is beautiful inside. Quilts and all kinds of stuff I love on the walls for decorations. I could have stayed longer.
Have you ever tried spoon bread? Oh my word! My new favorite! melts in your mouth!
And top that off with a Hot Brown. I'm with my people!
It was my turn to drive...OHIO STATE was on.
Look who greeted us in GSMNP!
I think we missed the colors by a week.
It was still beautiful!
I love a good tunnel pic.
We tried a new place in Bryson City for lunch. Pretty darn good burgers!
Our little cabin faces the trout pond. And the sound of the water coming over the rocks will put you to sleep in a hot second.
A pull-out and the kitchen.
The ladder to the loft.

I made some chicken friends. They were busy telling me what for!
Our all-time favorite coffee shop and bakery.
Two of the locals are always there when we visit.
The line was all the way to the door when we got there. I had my fingers crossed that they would have bakery items left when it came our turn.
Success!
Our bellies full, coffee in hand, we were off for a day of searching out the perfect spot for a sunset.
Fontana Lake
The Road To Nowhere
There is a very interesting story about this road and the community.
We met some very interesting people on our little hike...a scout master and two scouts finishing up their hiking requirements, a couple from the area, and a family with lots of crazy (in a good way) kids.
Pappy says that there ain't no haints in here.
Getting a sunset pic here was a bust. We would have had to hike out 6 miles to the bluff and six miles back before dark. We did not come perpared for a night hike.
Plan B. Pappy asked Google where a good place to catch a sunset was. So we drove and drove, and drove a little more.
I sent the next three pics to Ellis and Alaire to see if they remembered anything about this place.
Come to realize that it is the first campground that we set up base camp on in our AT adventures with Ellis and Alaire.
They have added bearboxes since we were here.
Black Rock Mountain is said to have a great view of the sunset...IN GEORGIA!
We decided to head back to NC to search for a sunset.
But first a stop at Darnell Farms...my all-time favorite place!
And finally, a Nate the farmer sighting. He was busy taking kids on hayrides, so no selfie today. But one day...it is at the top of my Bucket List. You can follow on IG and FB. Great guy! Does a tremendous job around the community!
Back to what we know.
The Skybox
I think I could do this in watercolor.
My midnight snack in the cabin...leftover breakfast from the Bryson City Bakery...Pecan Pic Cake.
You will never guess where we had breakfast! And we were second in line, right behind Bryson Bill!
car snacks
See ya later, my mountains. Until next time!
We stopped for lunch, and who did we run into...Ms Carolyn from Eastside. She and some friends were on their way home from the Women of Joy Conference in Gatlinburg.
